Spccication of Letter-s Patent .application meenemen 2r,

Be it known that l, FREDERICK HUHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cabinets, of which the following is a specication.
his invention and the object of vision of a cabinet for containing labels, such as druggists labels or the like, which may be connected up in superimposed rclaother cabinets in the manner of sectionalbook cases and like devices. "A further object of the invention is the provision of means which permits the ready4 removal of each label by engagement with the finger or lingers without utilizing an mechanism for the delivery of the labels.
Further objects of this invention will a pear as the following specific description 1s `read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which torms a part of this appli- Figure l is an elevation showing a plurality of the sections arranged in operative connected position. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the cabinet sections. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view. Fig. 4 is'a Similar View' taken at right angles to Fig. El.
l? ig. 5 is a transverse sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Referring moreparticularly to the drawing, each section ot the cabinet comprises side and back members l and 2, respectively. The side members-are connected together intermediate their ends by the end members 3 and 4 and have their upper ends cut away upon the inside, as shown at 5. The lower ends ot said side members are out away upon the outside, as shown at (i, and upon their rear edges. as shown at 7. so as to receive the upper portion of the adjacent back member. llinged to one of the side members isa door `8 which composee the compartment 9 and said door is provided with a longitudinal slot 10 opening at its lower end into an en larged thumb notch ll. The walls ofthe slot are under cut, as shown at 12, so as to permit. the linger nail to be inserted therein for openingr the door which is held in closed position by a leaf spring 13 carried upon the end member 3.
The notch l1 of the door is adapted to aline with a nger notch 14 formed in the outer portion of the end member 4, which relates to label cabinets the invention' is the pro#` and the door 8 closed..
notch .14 is of suiiicient size to permit Sthefentire width of the linger, a narrow continua tion of said slot being shown` at 15 @and .hav-
1 ing a width approximately lialfthe width fof 60 the finger, as shown in Fig. 5. llhese notches 14 and 15 have their walls under out 'to'produce the bevel 16 which permits ready engagement of the finger with said notohesnnd also obviates sharp edges. of the door is beveled at its lower end, as shown at 17, and the inner side of the end i is beveled at its forward end, as shown at 19, to provide an exit opening 20, the'doorS slightly voverlapping the whereby the labels will be deiiecteddown# Wrdly when moved by the finger.4
ln the operation of the device, a plurality of labels are placed in the compartment 9 remove 'a label, the fore linger is entered in the slots 14 and 15 and drawn forwardly against the gummed under. side of the label,
' the moisture of the linger causing the' label toadhere thereto with suiiicient tenacitvto permit the removal of the label. .The slot 10 in the cover or lid 8 permits the thumb to be engaged with the labels so that where a small number of labels are in the compartment, with insuliicientweight to proper pressure of the finger with the under side, the labels may be forced into engagement with the finger by the thumb or,- in other words, clamped between the fingers.
in mounting the. devices shown in Fig. l, the sections are preferably arranged in tiers, each tier comprising a plurali'ty of sections; as shown. These coupled sections may be supported upon va shelf, against a wall or in any tions ot' the upper tiers are arranged together, that an opening 21 will be formed between the adjoining members which is adapted to receive the upwardly projecting 100 ends of the sides of the lower tier sections. The. openings 2l are 'formedby the cut away portionstl. while the projections which enter the openings 21 are formed by cutting away ythe upper ends ot' the side members, as indi- 105 cated at 5. thus the tiers of the upper sections practically hold the tiers of the lower sections together. The upper sections are limited in their downward movement b v the lower ends thereof by coming into contact 11D with the end members 3 and by the upper ends of the lower tier sections commer into The inner side 65 end member 4, 7o
When it is desired to 7 5 permit the together, as 9o other suitable man- `ner, and it will be noticed that when the sec- Contact with shoulders 22 formed by the cut away portions 6. This arrangement provides openings 23 between the sections which permits the insertion ot' the finger for removal of the labels.
W'llat is claimed is A label holding cabinet comprising back, side and end members, d door hinged to .one of the side members and adapted to close the Compartment formed, said door having a longitmlinl slot therein terminating in :in enlergetl thumb openingilie lower end ineinber being provided with a finger notch havite under walls under-cut or beveled inl wnrdly toward the notch, Said finger notch being of a size to permit entrenoe of the finger, and having a continuation with bevelecl or undercut walls, said continuation being of a width narrower than the finger notch proper to permit the incomplete entrance of the finger, the lower end of' the door and the outer encl of the lower end member being oiitwnrclly flared to facilitate the removal of the labels.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK HUHN.
