CURTAIN AND SHADE-ROLLER SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent;
Patented Apr. 15, 1913.
Application filed June 29, 1912. Serial No. 706,569.
My invention relates to improvements in curtain and shade roller supporters, and the object of my improvement is simplicity and economy in construction and convenience and efficiency in use.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved curtain and shade roller supporter, and a shade roller, a curtain rod andpart of a window casing. Fig. 2 is an end view on an enlarged scale of the left supporting devlce and a curtain pole in cross-section. Fig. 8 is a view from the other end of the right Fig. 4 is an end view of the curtain arm. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of part of the base of one of the supporting devices. Fig. 6 is a side elevation of the left supporting device. Fig. 7 is a similar view of the right supporting device, the shade roller holder being turned 90 degrees from the normal position. Fig. 8 is a bottom view of the left supporting device.
Fig. 9 is a perspective view of one of the shade roller holders and part of the base. Fig. 10 is a sectional view on the line at 00 of Fig. 6. Fig. 11 is a sectional view on the line y 3 of Fig. 6. Fig. 12 is a plan view of the blank for the left shade roller holder.
My curtain and shade roller supporter comprises a pair of supporting devices A, one of which serves as a left supporting device and the other as a right supporting device and which devices are suitable for supporting a shade roller B and a curtain rod C, or if desired, in place of the rod C a curtain pole D may be supported. My sup porter is particularly suited for use with a window casing E having corner blocks F at the upper outercorners that are square in cross-section as shown, the middle portion of which may be carved or formed in some ornamental manner. The supporting device A comprises a base G of right angular formation, having a vertically disposed arm 15 suitable for being positioned along the outer lateral edge of the block F and as shown having the extreme outer edge flush with the outer edge of the said block and a lower arm 16 extending inward from the lower end of the said arm 15 and suitable for extending along the lower edge of the said block F and having the extreme lower edge flush with the extreme lower edge of the block, whereby the said base G serves as a finish for the outer and lower edges of the block F.
Two screw holes 17 for receiving supporting screws for securing the supporting device A to the block F are provided, one being located in the middle of the body of the upper arm 15 and the other in an car 18 extendingupward from the inner end of the lower arm 16. The upper arm 15 is of a flat plate-like form and comprises at the upper end a forwardly projecting boss 19 which is pierced by a hole 20 shown as having a square cross-section and a slight taper. The upper hole 17 is preferably located at the middle of the body portion, which body portion is suitably widened to provide for the said screw hole. The lower arm 16 has the front surface 21 raised relatively to the front surface of the upper arm 15 and intermediate the ends 22 is cut away on the rear surface as shown at 24 and a slot 23 extends longitudinally intermediate the said ends, whereby the rear portions of the ends 22 and the ear 18 serve assupporting feet for a pair of laterally disposed parallel bars '25, one on each side of the longitudinal slot 23, and which bars 25 are separated normally from the block F to which the device A is secured by a working space 24.
The curtain arm H comprises a forwardly extending shank 26, having at the rear end a rearwardly extending stud or post 29 of square cross-section that is a fit for the hole 20 in the boss 19 and suitable for being rigidly secured therein and at the front end having an upwardly projecting pin 27 suitable for extending and engaging with the supporting hole in the curtain rod C and extending forward from the said front end of the shank there is a hook 28 suitable for receiving and supporting one end of a curtain pole D. The curtain arms H are fixedly mounted on the upper ends of the upper arms 15 of the bases G and are suited to support either a curtain rod O or a curtain pole D as desired.
The shade roller holder I is formed of a strip of sheet metal doubled upon itself in the middle as indicated by the dotted line at 30 in Fig. 12, the two ends being simi- 36 extending inward from the lateral edges,
and which serve at the same time to form bearing edges or feet 37 on the back edges of the body portions. The neck 35 at the junction thereof with the wings 33 as indicated at 38 is bent so that the said wings 33 are positioned at an angle of approximately a right angle relatively to the body portion 34, and the two body portions 34 are slightly curved, whereby the back portions are normally spread slightly though appreciably, and appreciable pressure is required to bring the said back portions or ends together in opposition to the resiliency of the material, and the wings 33 are so disposed that the extreme free end edges 39 are positioned forwardly relatively to the line of connection 38 thereof with the neck 35, and are suitable for serving as bearing edges to engage with the rear sides of the parallel bars 25. I
The shade roller holder I is engaged with the arm 16 by turning the holder at 90 degrees from the normal position, as shown in Fig. 7, inserting the wings 33 through the longitudinal slot 23, and into the working space 24, then turning to normal position and in doing so, bringing the bearing edges or feet 37 of the body portion 34 into engagement with the front faces of the parallel bars 25, whereby the holder I is brought into resilient engagement with the bars 25. Adjustment of the lateral position may be effected by the application of abnormal pressure to the holder I and the resiliency of the engagement thereof with the bars 25 is sufficient to hold the same fixedly under normal conditions of usage.
My supporter as described serves as an ornament and finish to a block of a Window casing of a particular construction and serves to support either a curtain rod or curtain pole as desired and provides means for supporting a shade roller that are adj ustable to correspond to different lengths of shade rollers and'diiferent widths of window casing.
I claim as my invention In a shade roller holder having a base provided with adjacent parallel bars, a holder comprising two similar parts connected together at one end and each of the said parts comprising a body portion provided with means for receiving a shade roller and having a supporting edge at the other end, a neck extending from the said other end and a wing connected to the said neck the said edges being suitable for engaging with the said bars on one face thereof and while the said wings are engaged with the other face thereof.
