BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 8, 1913.
Application filed November 11, 1912. SeriaLNo. 730,688.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J osnrrr Green, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Munich, Bavaria, Germany, have invented a new anduseful Improvement in Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to brushes, and has for its objects, to improve the sanitary conditions of brushes, and to provide a brush which may be cleaned quickly, easily and thoroughly.
To such ends this invention consists in a brush, comprising a back, made up of a number of removably supported bristle carriers, each capable of being readily separated from the others, whereby each individual bristle carrier may be cleaned, independent of the others.
The invention further consists in the several novel features of construction hereinafter set fort-h and claimed.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the drawing furnished herewith, of which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a brush, embodying one form of the present invention, Fig. 2 is a plan of the brush seen in Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 is a vertical cross section taken on the line 38 of Fig. 1.
Referring to said drawing, 10 designates the handle of the brush, and here shown as comprising a piece of wire, bent into the form of a loop, 11, with its ends spaced apart to form a fork, 12, 12 The back comprises a number of bristle carriers, 13, here shown in the form of round bars, extending between the fork members, and re movably carried thereby. Preferably said bristle carriers lie side by side as seen in Fig. 2 and the bristles, 14, are arranged in groups projecting down therefrom, one group for each carrier, and secured thereto in any well known manner.
Means are provided for removably fastening the bristle carriers to their support, and in the form illustrated in the drawing, said means comprises a bolt, 15, having an eye, 15*, engaging one member 12, of the fork beyond the bristle carriers, and a nut, 15
secured upon the threaded end of the bolt, 15, and bearing against the side of the fork member, 12. The member, 12 is provided in its end with a longitudinally extending slot, 12 through which the bolt, .15, is moved into operative position or detached from the fork members. The bristle carriers are shown as held between said bolt, 15, and outwardly bent portions, 11*, of the handle, 10, and the ends of said bristle carriers are grooved, as at 13*, to fit against the round sides of the fork members, but it is obvious that other equivalent means may be used for slidably mounting said bristle carriers upon their support.
The brush shown, is particularly useful as a bakers brush, but its form may be varied and adapted for use as a clothes brush, hair brush, and for various other purposes.
In case it becomes necessary to clean the brush, the bristle carriers may be readily detached from their support, by first unfastening the securing means, and thereafter sliding the carriers off their fork members 12, 12*. Each individual bristle carrier may be cleaned thoroughly and thereafter all may be slipped back upon their support and fastened in place by the bolt, 15, or by other fastening means.
I realize that various alterations and modifications of the form of the device shown and described, are possible without departing from the spirit of this invention, and I do not therefore desire to limit myself to the precise construction shown and described, except as may be necessitated by the state of the art.
I claim as new and Letters Patent:
1. A brush, comprising a forked supporting member, a plurality of bristle carriers extending between the members of the fork and slidably mounted thereon, said bristle carriers being capable of removal and replacement at the open end of the forked member, and securing means for holding said. bristle carriers 1n position upon the supporting member.
2. A brush, comprising a handle formed with a pair of spaced supports unconnected at one end, a plurality of bristle-carriers, removably and slidably mounted upon said supports and capable of removal and replacement at the unconnected end of said supports, and an eye bolt and nut connecting said supports at a point beyond the bristle carriers and arranged to secure the latter in place thereon.
3. A brush, comprising a pair of parallel desire to secure by round bars connected at one end but unconmovably securing said bristle carriers in nected at the other end, a plurality of bristle place upon said bars.
carriers extending between said bars and a t having grooved ends slidably mounted Jobhl H GILRL' thereon, said bristle carriers being capable VVit-nesses:
of removal and replacement at the uncon- A. V. V. Co'rTER,
nected end of said bars, and means for re- MA'rI-IILDE K. HELD.
Copies of this'patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents. Washington, I). C.
