CUSPIDOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 18, 1913.

To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK GEORGEL-IN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cuspidors, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in cuspidors, and resides in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts set forth in the following description and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved cuspidor. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional view illustrating the position of the parts when the cover is swung to an open position.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the numeral 1 designates a cuspidor which is provided with a hinged closure 2. Connected adjacent the bottom of the cuspidor and extending longitudinally thereof, is a substantially V-shaped member 3. The member 3, in the present instance is constructed from a single strand of wire, and the said member is designed to serve as a means for preventing the accidental tilting or overthrow of the cuspidor, as well as for an additional purpose which will presently be set forth. The V-shaped member 3 has its arms secured attheir ends to the opposite sides of the cuspidor, adjacent the bottom of the said cuspidor and intermediate of the hinge or cover, the said member extending longitudinally a suitable distance from the cuspidor and is adapted to engage with the support upon which the cuspidor rests.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is In combination, a cuspidor having a hinged top and having a lever pivotally connected to one of its sides directly belOW its hinged cover and above the bottom of the cuspidor, an angular rod securely connected with the lever adjacent the outer end thereof and loosely connected with the top of the cuspidor forward of its hinge, a member having angular arms disposed below the lever and having the extremities of its arms secured to the sides of the cuspidor, a spring having one of its end convolutions connected to the end of said memher, and its opposite convolution secured to the lever forward of the connection of the rod with the lever.
