WAGON ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented M ar. 1 1 ,l 91 3. Application filed May 15-, 1912. Serial No. 697,498.
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED C. DOODY, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Onge, in the county of Lawrence and State of South Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Wagon Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved combined corner brace and dash board footfor-buggy and wagon bodies and consists in the con-. struction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of mylinvention is to provide improved means for bracing and strengthening the corners of a buggy or spring wagon box or body and also for sup porting and securing the dash.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure' 1 is a perspective view of a corner of a buggy box or body provided with a combined corner brace and dash foot constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is an exterior elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional View of the same on the plane indicated by the line H of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view of the same on a plane intersecting the angle iron.
For thepurposes of this specification, a portion of a buggy or body is shown, the bottom being indicated at 1, one of the said boards at 2 and the front end board at 3.
In accordance with my invention, I provide an inner corner brace which is an angle iron 4 having angularly related wings or webs 5-6 arranged at right angles to each other and t0 respectively bear a ainst the 3 of the box or body, the said brace being provided at its under side in the angle between the webs 56'with a downwardly extending threaded stem 7 which passes through an opening in wardl the bottom of thebox or body and is provided with a nut 8 anda washer 9. The web 6 of the inner corner brace is rovided with an extending arm 10 which is nt forwar y and forwardly extended arm forms a means for securing and supporting the as'at 1.1 over the front of the boxdashboard so that my improved corner brace not only acts as such but also forms a dash foot. I
In connection with the inner corner brace hereinbefore described, I also employ an outer corner brace 14 which comprises Webs 15-16 arranged at right angles to each other and which bear, respectively, on the outer sides of the side 2 and front 3 of the body or box. This outer brace is secured in place by bolts 17 which pass through openings therein and also pass through openings in the side and end of the box or body and in the webs of the inner corner brace 4, the heads of the bolts being arranged on the outer brace and the nuts of the said bolts bearing on the webs of the inner brace, as shown. I also employ a reinforcing angle iron 18 which bears on the upper sides of the side and front boards of the buggy box at the corner thereof and is secured in place by screws 19, the forwardly extended portion 11 of the arm 10 of the inner corner brace passing over one of the arms of the said angle iron 18, as shown.
It will be understood from the foregoing and by reference to the drawing that my improved brace effectually strengthens the cornet of the box or body, both on the outer and inner sides thereof and that the inner;
corner brace also forms a dash foot. These devices may be readily'secured in place in any ordinary buggy or wagon bedor body and may be readily manufactured at slight 'cost.
I I claim v A vehicle bod or box having a bottom and angularly re ated sides and further pro- 90 vided on its inner side, in the angle between the sides, with an inner corner brace having webs bearing against the said angularly related sides, said inner corner brace having a downwardly extendin stem passing through the bottom and a so having a forwardly extending offset portion near its upper end and terminating at its upper end in a bar to secure a dash board, an outer corner brace having webs bearing onthe outer surfaces of said angularly related sides, bolts extending through the webs of the said braces and the said angularly reg I v 1 1,056,968
