To all whom t may concern v Be it known that I, JAMES C. SNYDER, citizen of t-he United States, residing. at Wabash, in the county of Wabash and State of Indiana, have in vented new and useful Improvements in Burial-Vaults, of which the following is a Specification.

My present invention pertains to burial vaults, and is designed more particularly as an improvement on the burial vault constituting the subject matter of my Let-ters- Patent Number 950,681 of March 1, 1910.

One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a burial vault comprising a base section and casket rests so constructed and relatively arranged that caskets can be arranged at various heights above thebase section as occasion demands.

Another object of the invent-ion is to so construct the upper section that it can be readily lowered into a grave and efectuall'y sealed to the base section.

Another object is the combination of the features stated in a casket constructed with a view to preventing moisture gaining access to its interior. s

With the foregoing in mind the invention will be fully understood from the following description and claims when the same are read in connection' with the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specication, inwhich:

Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.

The upper section 1 and the lower or base section 2 of my improved vault are respectively made of suitable plastic substance reinforced by reticulated metal 3 embedded therein. This is the preferred embodiment of my invention, but I would have it understood that without involving ,depart-ure from ie scope of the invention as claimed, the said sections may be made of any material ompatible with their purpose, and may be -reinforced or not in the discretion of the manufacturer. On its corners, and at its outer side adjacent its top the upper section 1 is provided with lugs the lower edges of which project outward beyond the major grooves.

The base section -2 is provided in its upper side and adjacent its edges with grooves 6*, and' on its upper side said base section is provided with parallel supports 7 which are "the interior of the upper section 1.

'In addition to the upper section 1 and the base section 2, inynovel vault comprises casket rests .10. These rests may be made of plastic Imaterial or any other material ycompatible with their purpose, and each comprises sides 11 recessed at their ends as indicated by 12, and 'an intermediate portion f13 .disposed between the sides at an intermediate point inthe height thereof; al] of the said recesses 12 being arranged at one side of the intermediate portion 13, as ,illustrated, for an important purpose hereinafter described.

It will be manifest from the foregoing that when my novel vault is sealed, no water can rise therein, and yet adequate drainage is provided for by reason of the pitched porltion of the base section 2 and the apertures 9. It will also be manifest that caskets can be supported at different heights in the vault by positioning the rests 10 at dierent distances apart on the supports 7 and also by inverting the rests.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s:

1. In a burial vault, the combination with a base section having its under side shaped to form a chamber and also having its upper side inclined downward from an intermediate point in its length toward its ends and further having on its upper side longitudinal supports the upper sides of which are inclined downward from intermediate oints in their length toward their ends; the ower portions of the said upper side and the said chamber being connected through apertures formed in the base section, an upper section disposed on the base section, and casket rests arranged transversely within the upper section and adjustable on the longitudinal supports of the base section in the direction of the length of said supports.

2. In a burial vault, the combination of a base section having on its upper side longitudinal supports the upper sides of which are incline downward from intermediate "points in their length toward their ends, an

upper section disposed on said lower section, and casket rests arranged transversely within the upper section on said supports and adjustable in the direction of the length of the latter.

3. In a burial vault, the combination of a base section having on its upper side spaced longitudinal supports, an upper section disposed on said lower section, and casketvrests transversely arranged withln the upper section and movably positioned on said supports; each of said rests having in its ends and at one of its sidesrecesses o a size to receive said longitudinal supports and enable the portion of the est intermediate the supports to occu y a position in a plane below the upper si es of the supports.
