To all 107mm 'it may concern Be it known that I, VIC/ron ODQUIST, a citizen of the United States, residing in Yonkers, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Cracker-Box Detente, of which the following is a speciiication.

This invention relates to a form of fascracker display boxes, and it consists in the novel devices and parts, and combination of parts and devices hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.

In the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display, cracker box, provided with my improved detent or fastening; Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a front view of the margin of the cracker box lid showing that portion of the detent formed in the lid; Fig. 5v is a front view of a portion of the cracker display box body illustrating that portion of the detentdevice formed in the body; Fig. 6 is a vertical section on the line 6 6 of Fig. 4 and Fig. 7 is a similar vertical section on the line 7 7 of Fig. 5. The fastening for the hinged cover of sheet metal display cracker boxes which constitutes the subject matter of the present invention, is one which is easily formed up by stamping the sheet metal of the body and the cover; is one that will operate simply as a friction detent when required; and finally is one which may be used as a holdfast in connection with the ordinary wire and lead seal or a padlock.

In the depending flange of the cover B is stamped the rounded concave-convex frict-ional detent D, also the elongated perforation E which is cut out of the metal. In the body of the box and in position to encounter t-he above detent is stamped out the countering concave-convex detent F having the raised central cross-bar or hasp G. Both the detents, the one D, in the cover, and the one F, in the body, present their convexity to the interior and their concavity to the outside of the box, and the detent F in the box is made suliiciently larger than the de? tent D, in the cover, so that the convexity of one may t into the concavity of the other when the cover is closed. The hasp G projects far enough through the perforation, E, in the cover, to permit of the insertion through said hasp of the wire H of an ordinary lead seal J shown in dotted lines at Fig. 2, which effectually seals the box against opening. Though this invention is especially devised to accommo date the use of such a wire seal for the purpose of sealing the cracker box against` opening in transit from the manufacturer to the user, still the detent permits, in place of the wire of the seal, a padlock to be used, or even a short peg or plug for temporarily fastening if that be desired.

It will be noted that the construct-ion of the detent, and its locking or sealing hasp is such that no projection, or if any no considerable or noticeable projection is formed thereby beyond the outside lines of the box itself; so that the detent need not increase the lateral dimensions of the box, an important convenience in the shipping of such boxes. The construction, it will further be noticed, is such that when the seal is olf, the rounded hasp and rounded form of the engaging parts, offer no material obstruction to the easy opening and closing of the box, the parts slipping readily past one another to permit this action. It will also be noted that the depression D is formed in the depending flange ordinarily found in display cracker boxes of the type shown in the drawing, and on account of this fact, the detent forming member D cannot be sprung out to any great extent because of the rigidity or stiiness of the flange, as would be possible in structures having the detent forming portion located in a narrow depending strip. However, by forming the depressions D and F with gentle curvatures as applicant has done, the parts are adapted to easily slip into copeiative position and be displaced from such position with only a slight force exerted against the depending flange of the cover.

Having thus described my invention I claim:-
