.My present invention relates to water carrying. troughs or flumes for irrigating or other ditches, and more particularly to that type of trough or flume structure disclosed in my Patent No. 971,087 granted September 27, 1910, and my present invention seeks to provide certain improvements on my patented fiunie structure that simplifies and reduces the cost of putting upthe said structure.
My invention consists in certain details of and novel arrangement of parts, all of which will hereinafter be fully ointed out in the il trstrated in the accompanying drawings, irrwhichv- Figure 1, is a perspective view of my present invention. Fig. 2, is a cross sec tion of the same on the line 2--2 on Fig. 1. Fig. 3, is a detail longitudinal section thereof. Fig. 4, is a longitudinal section on the line 44 on Fig. 2. Fig. 5, isa perspective view showing the various parts separated.
In the resent construction ofmy invention,the srde rails of the flume are arranged and mounted; in the usual manner. The flume sections 2-2, in the present case, are trough-shaped and preferably semi-circular in cross section. Each of the sectioiis 2 has a pair of closely related and parallel transverse ooves 21 21 at one end thereof that exten the full width of the sections and which form pockets for receiving the packing members 3-3 of such material that ,down into the grooves when the over apping smooth end of the adjacent section is clamped down same, the said packing 3 in my present case being also preferably of cylindrical shape in so when placed in the grooves pgrt thereof protrudes to proarings for the smooth ends of the .upper. sections 2 and thereby form I ter-ti'ght joints where the several parts are amped together.

In my present case, I use but one set of bolts 5-5 for fastening the flanges of the bands 4 and these bands pass down through the side sills 1 and are secured by the nuts 7 as shown, and to provide against the bolt head wearing loose and also to provide for a positive seating of the sections 2 onto the bands 4, web-like washers 23 are provided,

and these are mounted over the flanged ends described, the combination with opposite side of a plurality of metallic sections rails; whose adjacent'ends overlap, the upper end of each section havlng a pair of parallel transverse grooves on the inner face and like pendent flanges on the outer face, a compressihle packin in each of the said moves, a strap band 't at engages the metallic sections at a point between the pendent flanges and whose ends are supported on the opposite side rails, andmeans for clamping the overlapping ortions "of the metallic sect-ions and thc'said band and securing them on the said rails.

The combination with the opposite side sills; of a plurality of of semi-circular shape, the adjacent ends of each 'pair of sections overlapping, the upper end of each section having a pair of pendent transverse flanges, a packing strip held between the sections and cxtcndingthe full sheet metal sections transverse width thereof, the flanges ot' the said sections being mounted on the side sills, a strap band that forms a hanger of semicircular shape that engages the metal sec tions at a point between the pendent flanges thereof, the ends of the said band hanger resting on the side sills, and fastening bolts that pass through the rest portions of the band hangers and through the side sills.
3. The combination with the side sills, of the metallic trough sections, each section having a plurality of depressed portions extending the full width thereof, the said depressed portions forming pockets on the inn'er face, and pendent beads or flanges on the outer faces of-the sections a strap metal band hanger that engages the under side of the trough sect-ions between the pendent flanges thereof, thesaid strap hangers having apertured end portions for resting on the side sills, a bolt that passes through the rest ends of the strap hanger and the side sills, and a clip Washer between the head 01" the bolt and the side flanges of the metallic sections.
4. A tlunie or trough formed of sections having overlapping ends, at least one of such ends of a section being provided with a pair of transverse heads, a flat. clamping bar disposed between said beads, and edge clamping members cooperating with said bar to clamp said overlapping ends together.
5. A flun'le or trough formed of sections having overlapping ends, atleast one of such ends being provided With a pair of transverse beads spaced apart; a flat clamp ing bar disposed between said beads and extending from one side edge'of the-flame to the other, and means for securing said bar and said overlapping ends together to hold said overlapping ends in position.
6. A. flume or trough formed of sections 1 v having overlapplng ends, supporting thembers atleaeh side of said fiume, at least one of said overlapping ends being, provided with a pair of transverse beads spaced apart,
a flap clamping barextending under said overlapping ends adjacent to said beads,-and having bent over ends to engage said side supports, means cooperative with said bar for clamping said overlapping ends together and securing said trough to said side supports.
7. A flame or trough formed of sections having overlapping ends, at least'ene' of said ends having transverse beads, means for clamping said sections between said 1) ads. said means including a flat clamping bar disposed between said beads, and c0- operative clamping members .cotiperating with said bar to secure said overlapping ends together. i v Q WILLIAM JOHN SMITH.
