To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, CHARLES V. Mines and l/VILLIAM CHINTER, citizens of the United States, residing at Connellsville, in the county of Fayette and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Tall-Clamps and Posts, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention is an improved combined wall clamp and post, designed for use in a cook stove to secure the rear wall or brick in place in the fire-box, and to also support the cross piece of the top and prevent the same from Warping out of shape, the invention consisting in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices, hereinafter described and claimed.

The object of this invention is to provide improved devices of this character which may be readily installed in a stove, which may be readily removed therefrom when desired, and which may be readily adjusted.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a sectional View of a portion of a cook stove, showing our improved combined wall clamp and post arranged in operative position between the top of the oven and the cross piece of the stove top, and with the clamp in engagement with the rear brick. Fig. 2 is a detail vertical longitudinal sectional view of our improved combined wall clamp and post. Fig. 3 is a detail vertical transverse sectional View of the same, on the plane indicated by a-a of Fig. 2.

In accordance with our invention, we provide the clamp l which comprises a plate 2, provided at one end with a downturned and curved hook or arm 3, which is arranged to engage the upper side of the rear wall or brick of a stove, as indicated at a in Fig. 1, the plate 2 being arranged to bear on the top Z) of the oven. This plate is provided in its upper side wit-h a longitudinal recess 4, the Walls 5 of which incline inwardly and overhang the sides of the recess, and the said plate is also provided with a medially disposed longitudinal slot 6. In connection with the plate, we provide a post 7, which has a foot or base 8, so constructed as to tit and move longitudinally in the recess or guideway 4 of the clamp, the sides 9 of the foot or base projecting laterally and having inclined outer edges which are engaged by the overhanging walls 5 of the clamp. Hence the post may be moved longitudinally of the clamp, as may be required to effect the desired adjustment, and moreover the post is prevented from becoming casually detached from the clamp. The foot 8 of the post also has a vertical opening 19 to receive a suitable bolt 10, which bolt also passes through the slot 6. It will be understood that when the post is adjusted, the nut of the bolt should then be tightened, so as to firmly clamp the post to the clamp. It will also be understood that by this means the post may be adjusted, so as to cause it to lie directly under the center or under any other required portion of the cross piece 0 of the stove top. The post is provided with an upwardly opening threaded bore 11 to receive an adjusting and supporting bolt 12. The head 13 of the bolt bears directly under the cross piece a of the stove top, and may be readily adjusted by merely turning the bolt, and hence the device is adapted to be employed in stoves of various sizes, and kinds, and may be adjusted to support the cross piece of the top of any stove of this character. By first loosening the bolt 12, the combined clamp and post may be readily removed from the stove, as will be understood.

While we have herein shown and described what we now consider the preferred form of our invention, we will have it understood that changes may be made in the form, construction, and arrangement of the several parts, without departing from the spirit of our invention, and within the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a clamp adapted to bear on the top of an oven and having means adapted to engage the rear wall or brick of a fire pot, a post adjustably mounted on the clamp and having a threaded opening and a bolt engaging the threaded opening in the post, and adapted to bear under the cross piece of the stove top.

2.
