IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-BOLTS,

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, Russet. B. Permits, of Norwich, in the county of Ohenango and in the State of provements in Door-Bolts; and do hereby-declare that the following is a full,.cleiir, and exact description thereof, reference beinghad to the accompan yin g drawing making apart of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is afront elevation of my device as appliedv Figure 2 is a vertical central section of the same on Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.

The object of my invention 'is to produce aspriug door-bolt that, while possessing equal strength and efiii'aiency, shall cost less than those in ordinary use;- am v i i It consists in forming said bolt of one piece, provided containing the spring, and having two or morelongitudinal slots for the reception of the screws used for attaching the bolt to or upon the face of a door, as is hereinafter set forth. a v

A semicircular recess, E, formed within the inner face of the bolt A and extending from the rear end of the slot D forward about one-half the length of said bolt, serves to contain a spiral spring, 1 r

The rear end of the bolt being flattened, and having attached thereto a chain, G, the device is complete, and is applied to'a door by means of three screws, H and H, which, passing through the s ots G'and D into the door I, with their heads bearing lightly againstthe outer face of said bolt and of the wings, hold the same firmly in position against the door, while allowing to it free longitudinal motion thereon.

The spring 1*, bearing against the forward'end of thereccss' I) and againstthe screw H", presses the bolt upward into engagement with the keeper, except when withdrawn by means of the chain. Having thus fully set forth the nature and merits of my invention,
