To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LOUIS A. CORNELIUS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State ofMichigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in. Chain-Posts, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to chain posts, and its object is to provide an improved and simple device of that character whereby the chain is securely attached to the desired object. This object is attained by, and my invention finds a preferable embodiment in, the chain post hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows my chain post as applied to a bath-tub (shown in fragmentary vertical section) for attaching the upper end of the plug chain to the tub structure: Fig. 2 is an enlarged view partly in central vertical section, of my device shown in Fig. 1: Fig. 3 is a view of the chain post with cap removed: Fig. 4 is a side View of the posts cap: Fig. 5 is a bottom plan view of the same; and Fig. 6 is anedgewise view of the top link of the chain.
In the application of my invention shown, 1 is a bath tub, communicating as shown with the over-flow pipe 2 and having a drain pipe 3 with plug 4, all of any suitable and ordinary form. In my device, the stationary post 5 is provided with an encircling cap 6 adapted to be securely attached there to, preferably by threading the cap on the post as shown. The cap is laterally recessed at 7 to receivethe end link 8 of the plugchain 9, which link encircles the post near its extremity, in which engagement the link is securely held by the cap. The link 8 is 2, and the cap 6 when screwed down impinges on the interior surface of the bath tub 1 as shown, thus forming a lock-nut whereby both threaded ends of the post 5 are prevented from accidental unscrewing.
It will be seen that, when the parts are in their assembled position shown in that figure, the link 8 is securely held and cannot be disengaged from the post 5 so long as the cap remains in such position: it will also be seen that the hanging position of the chain prevents the accidental unscrewing of the cap, and that inasmuch as the recess 7 opens downwardly only, it will keep clean and drained, which is very desirable in bathtubs and the like.
Not confining myself to the details of construction shown and described, I claim:
1; In a device of the character described, a support, a horizontally disposed post fastened to the support and having an encircling cap adapted to be securely attached to the post and having a lateral recess on its under side, and a chain link adapted to enter said recess and to encircle the post in the attached position of the cap.
2. Ina device of the character described, a post having a screw cap threaded thereon provided with a lateral recess, and a chain link adapted to enter said recess and to en.-
circle the post in the screwed-on position of the cap.-
