LENTI-HEL C. JUNE, OF GREAT BEND. PENNSYLVANIA.
LAMP ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 17, 1912. Serial No. 691,457.
Patented Feb. 25, 1913.
To all whom it may concern.
Bc ity known that l, ln'zx'rnmr. (l. JUNE, a citizen of the lnited States, residing at Great Bend, in the county of Susquehanna and State oi Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and uset'ul 'Improvements 1n Lamp Attachments, ot' which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to lamp attachments.
The objectof the invention is to provide an attachment for lamps which shall be simple and cheap in construction and by which a watch or clock may be held in place adjacentto a burning lamp, and in such position as to be readily seen by a person who is screened from the light of the lamp.
A further object of the invention is to provide an attachment ot the kind referred to, the parts whereof shall be capable of ready adjustment in order to render a timepiece held by it discernible to a person located in any position in reference to the lamp.
With these objects in View the invention consists of an attachment having the generic and speciiic features of construction and arran ement of the parts substantially as hereinater described and claimed.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which;
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my attachment applied to a lamp, and having a Watch arranged in position thereon; Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the frame by which a portion of the attachment is connected to the lamp; Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of a slide of a f'rm to be applied to the frame; Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a holder adapted to be attached to the slide; Fig. 5 .is a rear View of the shade or reilector employed.; and, Fig. 6 is a side View of the reflector.
In this drawing 1 represents a frame which may be of wire or similarvmaterial, and which has at one end thereof a reduced portion 2 the end 3 of which is bent up at an angle from the main portion of the frame. The reduced portion 2 isof a size to surround and closely confine the base of a cylinder by which a burner is attached to a lamp, and the upwardly extending portion 3 is adapted to bear against the under face of the burner. Thus when the frame is laced in position with the end 2 surroundlng the cylinder 'and bearing `against. the
same, the upwardly turned end will bear against the lower portion of the burner and thus a secure attaclm'lent ot the 'frame to a lamp will be efl'ected. The frame l as herein shown is composed of wire bent in the form described, and has extending therefrom arms fi to which is attached in any suitable way a slide 5 which forms part of the means tor holding a timepiece. As herein shown the slide 5 consists of a plate having the sides 6 thereof bent back upon themselves forming ways which receive the arms 4 ot' the trame, and is capable of sliding back and forth thereon to bring the slide toward or away from the lamp to which the frame is attached.
Attached to the slide is an upright 7 which is connected to the slide at its base by a pivotal connection 8 which may have combined therewith a thumb nut, in order that the upright may be turned to any desired angle relative to the slide and be see e The upright is provided at cured in place. its upper end with any suitable means for connecting a watch or other timepiece thereto. For instance as herein shown the upright consists of a plate having at its lower end a flange 9 through which the pivotal connection extends, and has at its upperl end a second flange 10 having therein an openinlr 11 of a size to receive the stem of a watci and which is too small to permit the passage therethrough of the ring, permitting the attachment of a watch by placing the stem inthe opening with the ring resting on the upper face of the flange 10.
Formed with or attached tothe outer face of the upright 7 is a receptacle 12 for matches. The lower portion of the receptacle has formed in it a bottom 13 which inclines outward and tends to direct matches located in it to the outer face of the receptacle. At the lower end of the receptacle' is a slot or opening 14 of a width to permit the passage therethrough of a single match, and adjacent to the slot at 'about the center is a lip 15 extending outward and upward from the bottom 13, a short distance from the rear face of the receptacle and which serves to check a match discharged through the opening and hold it in position to be readily removed. 1
In connection with the holder described 'l preferably employ a shade and reiector 16 the inner face ofwhich is of reflecting material and which is provided with means for attaching it to a lamp .chinmey- The mennet herein Shown tor attaching' the reflector con- "5; of a stri-p t7 having." at ite upper end a hook adapted to pass over the Upper end ol' a chimney and :torm a support Jfor the retlefrtor or shade 'ipenings in lags 1S and 19 ti'vrlned respe tivelyv with the Lipper and lower ends ot' the reflector, and the lower end of the strip is bent to form grooves or notches extending' trnnm-'ereely aaron@ it. and which ret-ein the part' 'forming' the outer wall of the opening in the lip 19. The strip is preferably oi spring .metal so that hy ;lightly bendingl it 'and pushing it up or down through lip* tt) the height. ot.' the reflector may he. changed 'at will, and when the Vtrip i5 released its v mo ved,
Vln the use of the device, for instance in a sleepingroom, the lamp can he placed at a convenient distance from the occupant, the't holder hearing` the timepiece adjusted to a place to be readily Visible, and the `shade and reflector may be so positioned as to 'll`he trip paseos through direct the light upon the timepiece and at the h@ame time to shield the occupant vfrom the direft ra'vf of light.
l claim 1 l. A\n attachment. for lamps comprising a frame haring' contracted end adapted to emlnface a portion of' a lamp adjacent to the lmrner and haring' arms eXt-endil'ig' from sm-h f -ontracted end. a slide erranged on the arms.` and an upright attached to the Slide and movahle thereml, the upright: being provided with mean tor attaching` a timepiece to it'.
A\ n attachment for lamps comprising?r a vframe hai'ving a contractetil end adapted to embrace :1 portion ofalump adjacent to the t burner, an upward extension from Such end`r arms extending from such contracted end.y a 1 slide mounted on the arms, an upright pir- 5 otallv connected to the Slide, and mennel 'lor attaching a timepiece to the upright.
ln testimony whereof I affix my signature i in presence of two witnesses.
