Mercer and ing at Trenton, in the county of State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Containers. of which the following is a specification An object of theinvention is to provide a water-proof container.

The invention' embodies, among other features, a device that being adaptable for the reception of jewelry or other valuable articles that the'bather does not desire to leave in the bath house, the said container being arranged for connection with the suitof the bather and having the cover thereof arranged to form a watertight casing. The container can also be used for cigars, cigarettes or other smokable articles and is preferably provided with a plurality of compartments, in one of which the smokable articles are placed and the other of whichis adapted to contain matches for use in connection with the smokable articles. 7 7 I In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which:

- Referring more particularly to the views, use is made of a casing 10 having a vertical transversely extending partition 11 therein arranged to form a plurality of compartments 12, 13. A cylindrical casing 24 is secured to or formed with the partition 11 at the upper end thereof and mounted therein is an ex pansible helical spring 25 having a plate 26 secured to the upper end thereof, the said plate being adapted to normally abutagainst a pin 27 depending through an aperture in the top of the casing 24 when the cover 19 is in closed position on the casing 10. it being readily seen that when pressure is applied to the head 22 to disengage the same from the uppercnd of the front clamping member 16. the expansible action of the spring 25 will exert pressure against the pin 27, thus swinging the cover 19 into open position on the casing.

The various parts of my device are preferably made of metal. and althouglrthe device can be employed for various purposes. such as a container for jewelry and the like. the device is particularly adaptable for containing smokable articles such as cigars and cigarettes. the smokable articles being placed within the compartment 12 and matches for use inconnection with the smokable articles being placed in the compartment 13 as shown.

Thus, with a structure of the character described, a bather can readily attach the container to the front of the bathing suit by means of the front and

1. In a container, the combination with a casing, of a clamping member thereon, a'

casing.

2. In a container, the combination with a casing, of a clamping rmember thereon, a

cover supported on the clamping member and movable to close'thesaid casing, a second clamping member on the casing, a catch extended from the cover and adapted for releasable engagement with. the second clamping member -to retain the cover in locked position on the casing, and a spring on the said casing and engaging the cover to swing the same into open position when the said catch is released from-the said second clamping member.

3. In a contalner, the combination with a casing, of a clamping member thereon, a cover mounted to swing on the clamping member, a seat on the said casing and--adapted to receive portions of the cover thereon,

'In'a container, the combination with a casing, of a partition therein, the said par tition forming a plurality of compartments in the,casing, a seat formed with the casing, a clamping member on the casing, a cover mounted to swing on the clamping member, a second clamping member on the'casing, a locking member on the cover-and adapted for releasable engagement with the second clamping. member, a cylindrical casing on the said partition, a spring in the said cylindrical casing, and a pin depending from the said cover and norm ally extending through an aperture in the said cylindrical casing to be engaged by the said spring.
