Application filed June 7, 1912. Serial No. 702,338.
T u all 717710772. 1. t may concern:
Be it known that I, Gannon E. li'nnx'rron, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cast-Otis, of which the following is a speciticatitm My invention relates to improvements in cast-nits and the object of my improvement is simplicity-and economy in construction and convenience and efi'iciency in use.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure 1.
is a side elevation of my improved cast-oil and part of a suspender. Fig. 2 is a similar view on an enlarged scale of the strap membor. Fig. 3 is an end view of the same. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the cord member, the neck of the stud being shown in section. Fig. 5 is an end view of the same. Fig. 6. is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 7 is a view similar to Fig. st, with the stud in a different position. Fig. 8 is a sectional view of the cord member on the line a: of Fig. 4-, the strap member being, shown in elevation. F in. 9 is a sectional view of the same on the line y y of Fig. 7, the strap member being shown in elevation. Fig. 10 is a side elevation of the upper portion of the front arm of the cord member. Fig. '11
is a similar view of the upper portion of the rear arm.
Mycast-ott comprises a strap member B having at the upper end a bar it) suitable for receiving the loop oi a strap C of a suspender anda cord or loop member 1 having; a cord eye ll at the lower end suitable for slidably receiving the cord E of a trouser member and means for separablv connecting the said strap member and cord member to be described. 1
The strap member B comprises a body '12 having an elongated transverse slot 13 wh ch separates the bar--10 from the lower body portion and at the middle is provided with a downwardly extending). apron .l-t having a hole 15 which receives the rear end 16 ot' a. stud and in which the. said rear end to is secured by riveting as shown. The body portion of the stud extends forwardly from the apron 1 t and comprises 'adjacent the said apron 14 a neck l8 and at the extreme trout end a head 1.9. I
The body 12 of the strap member 1 is made of sheet material of appreciable thick ness, whereby a reliable connection is made in the manner described for securing the stud to the body 12.
The cord member 1) comprises the cord eye 11 at the lower end and an eye 20 at the upper end suitable for engaging with the neck portion 18 of the stud and intermediate the said ends has means for engaging and disengr g iup the stud and the eye 20 and for locking the said stud and eye in position of engagement, and is formed entirely of one piece of sheet material. The blank from which the cord member D is formed is an elongated strip, doubled upon itself to form a loop having a pair of upwardly extendingarms comprising a front arm 91 and a rear arm 22 and the cord eye 11 at the apex. The cord eye 11, is swaged to proper shape to provide a run way for the cord E and also to provide a settodetermiue the relative position of the two arms 21 and .22 to provide the lock for the neck 18 and stud.
The arms 21 and 22 comprise an eye 93 at. the upper end that is approximately circular. and slightly larger than the neck l8, and intermediate the eye 23 and the cord eye ll there is a circular opening 24 of diameter such as to provide clearance for admitting the head 19 of the stud and Connecting the eve E223 and opening 24 there is a passage way 25 having side walls generally parallel to the line of centers of the eye 2 and opening: 24 and separated so as to slidably lit the neck 18, and positioned to one side of the said line of centers. The connertiug passage 25 of the front arm it is positioned as shown to the left. of the line of centers and the connecting passage 25 of the hack arm 22is positioned to the right of the same. As shown the left wall 26 ot' the passage 25 of the front. arm 21 is arranged tangentially to the eye 23 and the right wall 27 thereof meets the same in the lower right hand quadrant, whereby a nose 28 is tin-med at the junction of the said right wall 27 and the wall of the eye. 23, suitable to serve as a locking: member in engagement with the lower right hand side of the neck 18. Similarly a nose 28 is formed on the back arm 52? and which serves as a. leftlooking membtw. The eye 23, passage 25, and opening; Jet; com blue to form an elongated hole having a for motion somewhat like an ordinary key hole. The rear arm 22 is narrow. The front. arm 91 is broad and the rear pin-thin :tl thereoi mil:
