The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same T o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MATHEW ORnuunon, .of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented `a new and useful Improvement in Pen-holding Attachment for Iukstands; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,.arid exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the' same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specifica-` Figure 1 represcntsmyimproved pen-holder as at tached to an inkstand. y

My invention has for its object to furnish au improved pen and pencil-holding attachment forxink stands, which shall be simple in construction, ccnvenient in use, and easily attached to the inkstaud; and
It consists in the device constructed as hereinafter more fully described.
v A is a rubber ring, which is designed to be placed lupon the neck of the inkstaud, where its elasticity will -hold it securely in place.
'Upon theouter side of the ring A are formed one,
two, or more short rubber tubes, B,into which the pen or pencil to be held is passed, the elasticity of said tubes B holding the pen or pencil securely in place.
To enable the tubes B to receive and hold a greater variety of different sizes of pens and pencils, valves C may be used in connection with thetubes B, which valves may be placed in the middle parts of the tubes,
or at their ends, as may be desired. I prefer to place them in the middle parts of the tubes B, as oerng less obstruction in inserting the pens or pencils. The valvesGfmay be permanently attached to, .orformed solidly upon, the tubesB, as may be desired; or they may be made separate and detachable. In-the lattercase they may be simply inserted in a slit cut in the side of the tubes B, and may be detached when de,- sired, or when a larger pen-holder or pencil is to be used, and attached when a smaller pen-holder or pencil is to be used.
