FRANK R. ANDERSON, OF ANACONDA, COLORADO.
MACHINE FOR CUTTING FUSES AND CRIMPING CAPS THEREON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 4, 1913.
Application filed July 19, 1912. Serial No. 710,523.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatl, FRANK R. ANDERSON,
' a citizen of the United States, residing at Anaconda, in the county of Teller and State of Colorado, have invented a new and use- Another object is to provide a machine of this character formed of but few parts and which will not, therefore, easily get out of order.
With the foregoing and other ob ect in View which will appear as the descriptionv proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and afrangementof parts and in the details of cpnstruction hereinafter described and claimed, it heing understood that changeslinflthe precise embodiment of the 1nvjiltion hereindisclosed, can be made withthe scqpeof what is claimed, without de- 5 view thereofi Fig. is an enlarged section on line Fig.1; ,Fig. 4: is an end elevation of the cap crimper. Fig. 5 is avertical longitudinal section through one of the thimbles and its, support. .Referring to the figures reference 1 designates 'a table having a standard 2 mounted thereon and from which extend thimbles or guide 'sleev es3 arranged side by side. Each of these sleeve has an opening 4 in the wall thereof throug which projects a spring pressed dog 5. A reel 6 is 55, ported at one end by a coiled spring 10 or on, one of its objects being to provide a sim-' by characters of orted betweenbrackets 7 at one end of I the table and is designed to carry fuses such as wshow-n at F. A blade. 8 is pivotally connectthe like, Mounted on the table 1 near its other end is a standard 11 having a fixed jaw or head 12 formed with semi-cylindri-- cal notches 13 in its upper face. A jaw '14 is pivotally connected to the head 12 and has semi-cylindrical notches 15 in its lower face designed to register with the notches 13. An arm 16 extends from the jaw and is yieldmgly supported by a spring 17.
A bell crank lever 18 is pivotally mounted upon the front of the table and is connected by a cord, rod, or other suitable connection 19 -to the spring supported end of the blade 8. Another bell crank 20 is mounted on the front of the table and is connected to the lever 18 by means of a rod 21 or the like. A foot lever 22 is pivotally connected to the table and has a connection through a rod 23 or the like with the lever 20 and another connection. through a rod Qi or the like with the arm 16.
In using the apparatus, the fuses to be cut and capped are unwound from the'reel 6 and inserted through the sleeves or thimbles 3 and drawn longitudinally so as to rest in-the recesses 13. Caps are placed upon the free ends of the fuses so as to lie within the recesses 13. The foot lever 22 is then depressed and the connections will cause blade 8 to swing downwardly and cut off the fuses while, at the same time, jaw 14 will be moved downwardly and will crimp the caps upon the fuses. Dogs 5 will prevent the fuses from pulling rearwardly out of the sleeves or thimbles 3. After the fuses have been cut and capped in the manner described, the ends thereof which are held in the sleeves or thimbles 3 -can be pulledunderstood of course that any desired number of fuses can be acted on at the same time, it merely bein g -necessary to provide as many guide sleeves or thimbles 3 and notches 13 and 15 as are necessary.
