This invention-relates to window shade roller brackets the object in View being to provide an ekceedingly simple, inexpensive, and practical bracket ofthe class described, Which may he'readily extended after being the window frame for the purpose of accommodating shades of diiferent' widths and rollers of different lengths.

A further object of the invention is to so construct the window shade bracket, and combine the parts thereof, that the bracket maybe readily extended and-contracted for the purpose stated, by the removal of asingle fastening device, such as ascrew or nail, thereby avoiding the mutilation of the window frame. Furthermore, .a pair of such brackets may be applied to a window frameillustrated in the accom anying drawings,

and pointed out in' the c aims hereunto appended.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation, showing the invention applied to a window frame and supporting a shade roiler. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the brackets. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the fixed or base member. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the slidable member.

The window shade roller bracket contemplated in this invention is composed entirely of sheet meetal, whichmay be of any desired gage, according tothe size and weight of the roller to be supported, and other conditions whichma-y. suggest themselves to the manufacturer.

The base or fixed member 1 is of cruciform shape and embodies the laterally or upwardly and downwardly projecting lugs 2,'whichare provided. with holes 3 to receive nails, tacks, or other fasteners, whereber may fastened to the window casing, at or near one, of the upper corners thereof. The .base member also comprises the horizontally extending arms which is provided with a longitudinal slot 5, the purpose of whichwill hereinafter appear. Opposite the longer arm 4 there is a shorter arm 6 designed to' glve an'extended bearing against the face of the window casing. .The body portion of the'member 1 is punched centrally ther f, to provide'a forwardly oifsetfgfiidewe 7, said web being offset sufiiciently beyon the front face of the member to'allow forthe thickness, of the sliding member, as/shownv in the drawing.

The sliding memberembodies an. elongated tongue 8, provided at or near the extremity thereof with a hole 9 to receive a suitable fastening device, such, as a, nail, tack, or screw, and in the sliding movement of the tongue through the offset web 7, said hole is always in registration with the slot 5 in. the arm 4 of the basemember. This enables the fastener to be driven through both members into the window casing. 1 At its opposite end, the tongue .8 is bent o form a laterally projecting bearin lug 10 formed either with a hole 11 or a siotlQ to receive the end pintle of the roller, as usual.

Prior to forming the bend 13 at the junction of the bearing M and tongue, the strip of metal of which t e adjustable member of the device is formed is widened out. or expanded, as shown, thereby forming'shoulders 15 which limit the inward sliding movement of the adjustable member by coming into contact with the offset web 7.

From the foregoing description, it'will be understood that the base member may be fixedly attached to the window frame by any suitable fastening devices. driven through the holes formed therein for that purpose, This being done, the sliding membe adjusted inward or outward on the fixed member, until the bearing lug 1s brought to proper pointto accommodate a shade roller of given-length. This enables a comparatively wide shade to be employed on the window, so that if necessary the shade may entirely cover and conceal the window casing.
