To all whom at may concern: i

Be it known that l, ALBIN WABTH, of Stapleton,

in'thencounty of'Bichmond'and State of New York,

have invented a new and improved Tap for Liquid Packages and Pdoherebydelare the following to be" a full, clear, and exact description'thereoi', which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the. same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing. forming part; of this specification, in which drawing-' Figure'l represents a transverse seetionoi' this invention.

This invention relates to an improvement in that class of taps for liquid packages for which a patent was granted to me April 19, 1870, and numbered 102,188.

My present imprdvement consists in the arrangement of acap fitting over a spout on the outside of the package, and bearing on a seatround said spout, in -combination with alink passing through the spout, and connected to a spring secured in the interior of the package, in such a manner that, by the action of said spring and link, the cap is firmly drawn up against its'seat and the package is closed, and by raising the cap against the action of its spring the package is opeued,'and the liquid contained therein is allowed to discharge through the spout.

, When the cap is closed it may be locked by a strap passing over it, and soldered or otherwise secured to the face of the package.

This tap consists essentially of a cap, a, which fits over a spout, h, and-closes down upon the seat 0,

,formed on the outer surface of a plate, (I, which supports the tap, and, which is'soldered or otherwise secured to the side A of the package.

'From the cap a extends-a link, e, through the; spout, connecting to a spring, f, which is secured -intheinterior of thepackage in any convenient position,-and-which is so constructed that .it draws thecap firmly up against its seat.

The seat is formed round he spcutb, and; it is packed with leather or other suitable material, so that, when the cap is drawn down upon it, a tightjoint willv be formed between it and theiedge of the cap. =11

The spring f may he madein the form shownjin the drawing, or in any other desirable'forrn or: shape,

and it may be-secured to the supporting-plate I, or to,

the interior surface of the side A of the package;

To the cap a is secured a mic or handle, g, by means of which said cap can be drawn back from" its seat, so as to open the spout b, andallow the-contents of the package to discharge. \Vhat I claim as new, and desire tosecure by Letters Patent, is-
