LOOSE-LEAH BINDER.
T all whom it may concern Be it kn gvn that 1, MAX S. Ensnnn, a
.citizen of the United States, residing at Referring to theacwmpai-iying drawings wherein my invention is illustrated as embodied 111 o. loose-leaf binder of book-form:
Figure l is a view in elevation, partly sec-' tional, and in the nature of a diagram, of alooseleaf binder of book-form constructed in accordance With my invention. 2 is aperspect-ive view of one of the two platemembers of my improved binder.- device. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the other, lugequipped member thereof. Fig. i is a broken perspective view of a portion of the binder showing the manner of attaching it to a stifiening member for assembling with the cover-sections of a book; and Fig. 5, an enlarged section taken at the line 5 on Fig. 1 and viewed in the direction of the arrow.
The binder illustrated in the drawings and constituting the preferred embodiment of my invention, is formed of a pair of substantially flatwise opposed plates 6 and 7, the plate 3 being provided along its opposite edges with lugs 8 spaced apart as rep resented and bentlo overlap the rear side of the plate '4", as represented in Fig. 5, for securin these plates together.
Stra dling the plate 6 and extending between the latter and the plate 7 and through the spaces between the lugs 8, is a series of substantially painllel U-shaped links 9, the lugs, 8 serving to pivotally confine the links in spaced relation on said plates. The links 9, which are in efiect connected with. said plates by hinge-joints, carry at their free ends, the clips, represented at 10, for en.- gagin With and holding the sheets to :be bound: one of which is indicated at 11. The clips 10 may be of any desirable. eonstruc- "Lion, those illustrated being constructed oi Specification of Letters Patent. Patgntqgd an, 14, 1913, Application filed July as, 18123.

spring wire and comprising side-sections 12 connected together by cross-bars 13 and intersecting spring-sections 14 on the ends of said sidesections. -'lhe free ends of the links 9 are formed into eyes 15 which surround the cross-bars 13 at the ends of the latter, and thus serve to hingedlyconnect the links and clips together, the bars 13 at; the portions thereof surrounded by the eyes 15 being deflected, as represented at 16, to form seats for the eyes and thus prevent the links and clips from becoming disarranged.
The parts described and assembled as stated may be securedln any desirable manner in operative position in a cabinet, box
or the like, or in cover-sections of a book.
In the preferred construction illustrated, for assembling with the, covers of a book, the back of the book and its front and back eavers hinged thereto, being represented at 17, 18 and 19 respectively, the plate 7 is formed intermediate its marginal edges with tohgues 20 out from the metal of back at right angles thereto. The tongues 20 serve as the means for securing the plates (I-andT and the links 9 and clips 10 in the above-stated assembled relation, to .a still plate-member 21, of Wood or any other suitable material, which is preferably provided with a strip of fabric 22 at which the. binderdevice is adapted to be secured to the back 17 of the book between the book-covers l8 and 19, as by gluing the strip 22 at its free ends to the inner surfaces of the book-sections, as illustrated in Fig. 1. The tongues 20, to thus serve their purpose, extend through openings 23 in the member 21, and are clenched at their] protruding ends against the rear surface of the member 21, as represented inFig. l.
the plate and bentv In assembling the plates 6 and 7, links 9f and clips 10, the links 9 are applied to the plate 6, on which the lugs 8 extend at angles thereto, as represented in Fig. 3, to
cause the links to. extend cross-wise of the late 6 at its rear side and into the spaces etween adyacent lugs 8. The plate 7 is'then seated upon the links 9 and between the i two series of lugs 8 (Fig. 5), and the latterthen bent inwardly against the rear side of the plate 7 to firmly clamp the plates and links to ether. I
It will be understood that by providing the double-hinge connection of the sheets 11 with the plates 6 and 7, the sheets and clips will lie Elatwise in compact condition .16".
