Letters Patent No. 105,028, dated July 5, 1870.
IMPROVED BED-BOTTOM,
The `Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the sama Be it known that I, VAN BELL, of Seville, in Athe county of Medinel und State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Bottoms,
of which the following is a. description.
Figure l is a. top view of the bed-bottom.
Figure 2, a. side view.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the diterent views.
This invention relates to n bed-bottom, the same being constructed ofthin, narrow strips of wood, interlaced or'woveu together, and the ends thereof secured in :t frame of the seme material, as herein described.
This invention will be readily understood from the illustration, fig. 1, in which it will be seen that the bed-bottom consists of thin, narrow strips of wood, interwoven, forming a net-work of slats, A B,f the ends thereof being secured between the rails C and cleat D, g. 2, by means of nails or pins, a,.driven therein, as shown in the drawing. Y
0n the under side of the sluts, and longitudinally therewith, is aJ strip, F, also indicated by the dotted lines b, fig. l.
l,Said strip is secured to the foot-rails by I n wire, 0
inclosing theprojecting ends thereof. The purpose of said strip is to assist in supporting the superimposed weight of the bed, in the event that'the bottom should settle much thereby.
A bed-bottom thus constructed -is not only simple in its arrangement and construction, butvit is also cheaply made. It .is light, strong, and durable, and
highly elastic, so that it can be lain on with euse and comfort.
