EIVIMA J. SIMMONS, OF AMSTERDAM, NEW YORK.
WASHBOILER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 7,1913.
Application filed. July 22, 1911. Serial No. 639,941.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EMMA J. SIMMONS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Amsterdam, in the county of Montgomery and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in lVashboilers, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention relates to washboilers, and has for an object to provide a device of this character whereby the clothes may be thoroughly washed and readily and conveniently drained.
In the drawing, forming a portion of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views: Figure 1 is a. vertical section through the boiler. Fig. 2 is an end view of the inner vessel of the boiler. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing theinner vessel in an elevated position. Fig. 4 is an end view of a portion of the outer vessel. Fig. 5 is a vertical longitudinal section taken through one of the bearing brackets. Fig. 6 is a section taken on line 66 of Fig. 5.
My improved boiler comprises an outer vessel. 1 and an inner vessel 2. The inner vessel is provided adjacent to its upper end with an integral cover-forming portion 3 for the outer vessel which is adapted to close the space between the walls of the inner and outer vessels when the former is in its lowered position in the latter, the said closure-forming portion also forming a support to hold the inner vessel with its bottom spaced from the bottom of the outer vessel, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.
The inner vessel is perforated, at a, so as to permit the water to drain from the clothes when the inner vessel is in the raised position shown in Fig. 3. These perforations also provide for a perfect circulation of steam and hot water in the inner vessel to efiect a perfect cleansing of the clothes as will be understood. The end walls 5 of the inner receptacle are provided with vertical grooves 6 in which the supporting and lifting members 7 are rotatably mounted. The
groove 6 at its lower portion terminates in a horizontally disposed angular recess 6 for the accommodation of the horizontal portion of the lifting member 7 the said horizontal portion of the lifting member being later described. The formation of said recess is such as to accommodate the vertical and horizontal portions of the lifting member 7, and further when said member 7 is in inoperative position the same is fitted flush with the end walls of the inner receptacle, as more plainly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. These members are provided with intermediate reduced portions 8 which are fitted in the bearing brackets 9. The said bearing bracket 9 comprises a single blank of metal secured at its intermediate portion within the vertical grooves 6, by means of a rivet or the like designated by the reference character 9, and the said brackets are bent around the reduced portions 8 whereby sliding movement of the supporting memhers is prevented. The supporting members are provided with horizontal portions 10 and depending branch portions 11. The branch portions are spaced from each other and are adapted to straddle the end walls of the outer vessel 1 and to engage in the vertical recesses 12 in the end walls 13 of said outer vessel. This construction is such that when it is desired to drain the clothes the inner vessel can be readily moved upwardly to a'position where the portions 10 of the supporting members will be engaged in the said recesses 12 in the outer vessel. The lifting members are provided at their upper ends with bail portions 14 which may be grasped by the hand in lifting or lowering the inner vessel. Suitable handles 15 are mounted on the end walls of the outer vessel. The inner vessel is closed by a removable cover 16 which may be of any suitable well known construction, being preferably provided with a handle such as the one shown, at 17.
I claim:
In combination with a Wash boiler including a stationary vessel having the top edge of its end walls recessed and a movable inner vessel having its end walls re cessed to provide a vertical groove, termibrackets and only permitting of the lifting nating at its lower end in a horizontally means having" rotary movements. 10 disposed angular groove, and bearing brack- In testimony Whereof I aflix my signature ets disposed Within the said vertical groove in presence of two Witnesses.
