To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, Zaorranrnrr WV. Ussnnr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Juliette, in the county of Monroe and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Bed-Lock, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to improvements in bed locks, the primary object of the invention being the provision of a novel form of locking device adapted to be connected to the adjacent portions of the bed post and side rails to lock the rails to the post and against downward and outward movement, said lock forming a brace to rigidly secure the side rail to the post in such a manner that the post and rail will remain in relative position at all times.

\Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the com bination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from-the spirit of the invention.

1 and 2 designate respectively, the corner post and side rail of the bed, the corner post having detachably connected thereto, the metal member 3 which is provided with the offset lug which is formed at the bottom so that the member 3 in cross section at such point will be L-shaped, the lug 4: being provided upon its upper face with the side rail receiving socket or recess 5, while the flange of the member above the lug at is provided with the bayonet or L-shaped slot 6, in the present instance two being employed.

The side rail 2 which as shown in Fig. 7 is provided with the vertical recess 7 upon its edge and face adjacent to the outer face of the corner post and adapted to be connected in said recess 7 is the plate 8, the plate 8 and the member 3 being connected to their respective elements by screws or bolts or any other fastening means. The plate 8 as shown is provided with the plurality of bayonet lugs 9, there being one to each of the respective bayonet slots 6, so that the same will register with the slots and co-act therewith to hold the rail 2 relatively and in locked relation to the corner post 1.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings it is evident that the side rail which carries the plate 8 and the bayonet lug 9 may be readily inserted by causing the connecting portion of the respective lugs to slide within the post of the slot 6, until the heads of said lugs are adjacent to the enlarged portion of said slots, at which time the side rail may be permitted to move downwardly so that the heads of the respective bayonet lugs 9 will assume the position as shown in Fig. 1 so as to engage the outer face of the member 3 and seat within the forward portion of the enlarged portion of the slot 6, the lower end of the plate 8 and the adjacent portion of the side rail 2 fitting within the rail socket 5 of the lug 4 of the member 3, so that both

3 and 8 will co-act to cooperate to lock the rail 2 to the corner post 1.

WVhat is claimed is:

l. A bed having rectangular corner posts and side rails, and a lock therefor, comprising a member attached to one of the edges of the post and provided with a socket for the reception of the lower edge of the rail, co-acting means fixedly and bodily carried by said member and the outer face of the rail for locking the rail seated and against separation from the post.

2. A bed having rectangular corner posts and side rails, and a lock therefor, comprising a member attached to one of the edges of the post and provided with a socket for the reception of the lower edge of the rail, said member having a flange disposed to fit exteriorly of the side rail, and co-acting means fixedly and bodily carried by said flange and the side rail for locking the rail seated and against separation from the post.

3. A bed having corner posts and side rails, and a lock therefor, comprising a member attached to the post and provided with a socket for the reception of the lower edge of the rail, said member having a flange disposed to fit exteriorly of the side rail, said flange being provided with a plnrality of bayonet slots opening at the edge of the flange, and a plurality of bayonet lugs carried by the rail for registration with the slots of the flange to lock the rail to the post.
