IMPRVED WROUG-HT-IRON COUPLINGPIPE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
I 'o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL Vnssroxn, of the city and county of Providence, inthe State of Rhode Island, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Coupling-Pipe, and I do hereby declare that the following specication, taken in connection with the drawing makinga part of the same, isa full, clear, and exact vdescription thereof.
Figure 1 shows my improved pipe.
Figure 2 is a section ofthe same.
My intention consists in making coupling- 'ipe from wrought iron, as hereinafter described, and 'his for its object the production of an article which, from its iucx'eased strength and durability, as well the facility with which it may be used, shall be superior to others now in use.
I am aware that a smooth coupling-pipe has .heretofore been made from wrought iron bythe usual rolling and drawing process.
It is necessary, however, in making coupling-pipe, to so construct the same thatl the tongs may get au easy and certain grip, not only for the purpose. of' decreasing the necessary outlay of strength required to adjust it, but to overcome the ditiiculties arising where ,the locality is such that the necessary strength replace of the ridges, although the latter I consider preferable, as they increase its strength,.while thev former weaken it.
Thus I produce a wrought-iron coupling-pipe as a new article of manufacture, having upon its surface ridges, (or grooves) which, for facility of adjustment and strength, render it superior to the wrought-iron coupling-pipe now in use.
-What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isy Awrought-iron couplingpipe,`made with ridges or grooves, substantially as described.
