COMBINED REGISTERING AND SUPPORTING CABINET.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Ross H. TRIoKLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Licking and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Registering and Supporting Cabinets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in combined registering and supporting cabinets and is designed more particularly for barbers use and my object is to provide a cabinet on which are arranged a plurality of compartments for the reception of bottles containing various ingredients.

A further object is to provide a register and means operated by the weight of the bottle for registering the number of times the bottle is removed from its respective compartment.

A further object is to provide means for limiting the rotation of the register.

A further object is to provide means for returning the registers to their initial positions when desired.

Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the specification.

In the accompanying drawings, which are made a part of this application, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cabinet ready for use. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical sec tional view through the central portion of the cabinet. Fig. 3 is a similar view through one end of the cabinet, and, Fig. 4 is an elevation of one of the registering wheels removed from the cabinet.

Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate correspond ing parts throughout the several views, 1 indicates the cabinet frame, which may be, if desired, preferably oblong and is provided at its ends with compartments 2 and 3 for the reception of consecutively numbered slips 4 and 5, respectively. The compartment 2 preferably contains two sets of slips, one set of which is to be used when the customer is given a hair cut and the other set when the customers neck is shaved while the slips in the compartment 3 are to be used for shaving purposes.

The slips of paper are engaged at their Specification of Letters Patent.

inner ends with rods 6 which are in turn attached to boards 7, which boards rest upon the bottom portion of the compartments 2 and 3, the inner ends of said boards having staples 8 attached thereto which extend through openings 9 in the rear wall of the cabinet frame and are secured in any suitable manner, as by ineans of padlocks 10 or the like. By securing the slips in this manner it will be impossible to supply a new set of slips until the padlock is released from the staples. Immediately below the compartments 2 and 3 are formed auxiliary compartments 11 for the reception of razors, combs and other implements used by barbers.

The slips in the compartments 2 and 3 being consecutively numbered, it is an easy matter to keep track of the number of persons shaved or given a hair out and all that is necessary to accomplish this result is to remove one slip each time a customer is shaved and also when given a hair cut or neck shave. It is also desirable to keep record of each application of hair tonic or similar lotions and also of the application of shampooing and massage lotions and the principal part of this invention is the mechanism for accomplishing this last object, which consists in providing the upper rear face of that portion of the cabinet between the compartment-s 2 and 3 with a number of receptacles 12 in which are to be placed bottles and jars containing the various ton ics, shampoo lotions, etc, each receptacle containing a certain price mark indicating the cost of the application of that particular lotion.

In order to register the removal of the bottles or the like from each receptacle, a plurality of disks 13 are placed upon a rod let extending longitudinally of the cabinet, there being one disk for each receptacle and on said disks are placed numerals 15, ranging consecutively from one to any desired number. These disks are rotated a predetermined distance when the bottle is returned to the receptacle and this is accomplished by placing a spring plate 15 in each receptacle, one end of the plate being anchored while the other end is movable and which when the bottle is removed, rests at an angle to the bottom of the receptacle.

Depending from the free end of the plate is a plunger 16 which extends through the bottom of the receptacle and engages a spring arm 17, which in turn carries a swinging pawl 18 arranged to consecutively engage teeth 19 on the disk and rotate the same when the pawl is lowered. The disks 13 are held against rotation in one direction by means of a spring tongue 20, one end of which is secured and carried by the floor section 21 of the various receptacles, said fioor section being in turn secured to the rear wall of the cabinet by means of hinges 22.

The disks are limited in their rotating movement by means of stop pins 23 and 24c carried by the disks and floor sections of the cabinet respectively so that it will be im possible to removethe bottles a number of times and then rotate the disk a suflicient distance to indicate a less number of removals of the bottle. When the disks have made a complete revolution the floor section 21 is swung upwardly and the spring tongues 20 disengaged from the disk when the coiled springs 25 will restore the disks to their initial or starting positions. As soon as this is accomplished the floor section is again lowered and secured in its closed position by any suitable form of lock 26 and as no one but the proprietor is provided wit-h a key to operate said lock it will be impossible for any one to change or tamper with the register until the tally or count is verified.

Immediately in'front of the registers is placed a cash drawer 27, which is normally closed by means of a door 28, one end of which is hingedly secured to the forward edge of the floor section 21 and by this arrangement each individual person or barber makes his own change, an accurate account of the money so received being indicated by the numbers on the disks and the numbers on the various slips, the numbers on the disks being seen through a window 29 formed in the wall 30 dividing the registers or disks from the cash drawer.

The number on the disk in front of the window will indicate the number of times the bottles have been used, while the visible numbers on the slips will indicate the number of individual slips used and by. multiplying said numbers by the cost price as indicated on the various receptacles or above the slips, the amount of money. that should be in the cash drawer will be readily ascertained.

The upper walls of the compartments 2 and 3 are cut away so that the fingers can be readily introduced to remove the slips and suitable plates 31 and 32 are provided for the receptacles 2 and 3, respectively upon which is placed, a sum equal to the value of each slip, over which the cost marks are placed. The tops of the compartments 2 and =8 may also be provided with suitable trays 33 and 3 1 for the reception of various articles or implements used by the barbers. This device is adapted to be placed on a shelf or other convenient position adjacent the barber so that he can have ready access thereto. If the customer is to receive a shave one of the slips 5 is removed from the compartment 3 and used in the prescribed manner and the number of the slips so removed will indicate the number of shaves given. This also applies to the slips contained in the compartment 2. If a tonic is to be applied to the hair of the customer or if he is given a shampoo or massage the removal of the bottles from the receptacles 12 will permit the spring plates 15 to arise, whereupon the spring arms 17 will elevate the pawls 18 and engage them with the next succeeding teeth on the disks so that when the bottles are returned to the receptacles the spring plates will be depressed and the disks rotated the prescribed distance to bring the neXt succeeding number on the disk into view.

In summing up at the end of the days work the proprietor first takes the number of shaves given and multiplies such number by the cost of each shave and it is likewise with the other slips and the numerals eX- posed on the disks. The totals thus obtained are then added together and the moneys contained in the money drawer counted and if a proper record has been kept or the proper change made the sums total and the amount of cash in the drawer will correspond. The proprietor then unlocks the floor section 21 and swings the same upwardly on its hinges until the disks are released and returned to their initial positions through the medium of the coil springs attached to the disks. The floor section is then lowered and locked in its closed position when the device is again ready for use.

hat I claim is In a device of the. class described, the combination of a cabinet and a hinged top therefor, a rigid shaft in said cabinet, a registering disk rotatably mounted 011 said shaft, a spring plate having one end secured to said hinged top and the free end normally disposed thereabove, a plunger pin carried by the free end of said plate and extending through said hinged top, an arm carried by the under side of said hinged top and having one end engaging said plunger, and a swinging pawl carried by said arm and resting upon said disk.
