UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY ALFRED THOMAS GRIFFIN, OF SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA,
ASSIG-NOR TO JAMES CHANNON, 0F PAKENI-IAM HORNSBY, NEAR SYDNEY, AUS- NEGKTIE FORM AND RETAINER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY ALFRED THOMAS GRIFFIN, a subject of the King of Great Britain, resident lately of 15 Ireland street, West Melbourne, in the State of Victoria and Commonwealth of Australia, but now of 52 Victoria street, Sydney, in the State of New South Wales and said Commonwealth, have invented a new and useful Necktie Form and Retainer, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved device whereby apparel ties or scarfs may be affixed to folded-over closed collars as of shirts blouses and the like before or after tying or knotting.
This improved device consists of a somewhat fiexible wire frame so shaped or formed that the tie or scarf will be vertically held at two positions either side of the center of the collar and that said frame.
with the tie or scarf so held may be easily adjusted and kept in position under the overfold of the collar. The device or frame may be permanently affixed to a collar stud or to a removable part or stem of a collar stud. But in order that this invention may be easily carried into practical effect the same will now'be described in detail with reference to the drawings accompanying and forming part of this complete specification in which are perspective views respectively as follows Figure 1 of the improved device; and Fig. 2 of the front of the device with a tie or scarf thereon ready for use.
The metal wire is shaped or formed as a frame having rounded or hook ends 5 to prevent catching in or tearing or abrading the collar and to keep the tie or scarf from rising and it has at either end vertical pieces 6 and 8 forming a lower bend or rest 7 and a second top bend 9. The two top bends 9 are joined by a bowed piece 10 which centrally is secured by soldering or brazing to a clip stem collar stud as in Fig. 1 which has a removable end 11. The wire of which this device is shaped or formed is Specification of Letters Patent.

more or less flexible so that its parts will grip and hold and the whole conform to the convexity of the collar.
In use the tie is positioned or threaded edgewise in from the front in the vertical grip between the uprights 6 and 8 and rests on the lower bend 7 and its ends are then passed around the uprights 6 to the front again under the bend or hook 5 and pulled tightly. A bow or knot can then be tied as ordinarily with the two free ends either before or after the threaded frame is placed under the overfold of the collar and upon the stud. Being so attached on the stud the end portions of the frame position comfortably underneath the overfold of the collar said frame elastically giving longitudinally as may be necessary by reason of the bowed connection 10 between its ends and adjusting itself to the convexity of the collar and to any change therein in use and at the same time elastically gripping and liglding on to the collar and on to the threade tie.
Having now fully described and ascertained my said invention and the manner in which it is to be performed I declare that what I claim is A tie holder comprised of a single strand of wire each end portion of which is bent to have a pair of long spaced vertical members, the outer member of each pair having its free end terminating in a hook end, and a bowed piece connecting the inner ones of said pairs of members, said bowed piece being formed at its center with an integral loop, and a collar button rigidly and permanently secured to said loop and having a removable end.
7 Dated this 15th day of May, A. D. 1911.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY ALFRED THOMAS GRIFFIN.

PERCY NEWELL, L. M. COBB.
