Description

SHIRT COLLAR I Filed Aug. 15 1.927
Patented Apr. 16, 1929.
UNITE NICO LAE ANTONU, OF GALATZ, RUMANIA.
SHIRT COLLAR.
Application filed August 15, 1927, Serial No. 213,084, and in Rumania October 29, 1926.
This invention relates to a shirt collar which is intended to be worn, for instance in the form of a stand-up collar under uniforms, and a closing memb r for the same.
While the ordinary stand-up collar for uniforms mustbe closed by means of a stud, which has the disadvantage that it is pressed by the pressure of the uniform collar lying above it against the neck of the wearer and constricts it, or bymeans of tying tapes, the use of which is inconvenient, the collar with closure according to the present invention has certain advantages, one of which is, for instance, that it may be used for all sizes'of necks. The closing member is in no way in convenient, and has no constricting action, on the contrary, it is possible for instance in hot weather, to alter the size of the collar at will, that is, to loosen it. In addition to this, if the collar is made sufficiently long, it may at the same time be converted into a light and simple neck-tie, which is very convenient, because the collar with the tie can be very quickly fastened. A further advantage is that both the collar and the closing member can be made very cheaply.
In the accompanying drawing, the collar with various constructional examples of the closing member is shown.
Figs. 1 and 2 showing one constructional form of the closing member, in two views,
Figs. 3 and 4: another constructional form of the closing member in two views, and
Figs. 5 and 6 a further constructional form of the closing member in two views.
Figs. 7, 8 and 9 show three ways of using the closing member for fastening collars.
Fig. 10 shows the closing member used in connection with collar and cravat or necktie, and
Fig. 11 the closing member for tying the neck-tie.
The member A shown in Figs. 1 and 2 which is made of a fiat metal or celluloid strip consists of a strip 1, with a flat slot 2, the length of which is the same as the width of the collar and the width of which is about double the thickness of the collar. One end of the strip is forked and is bent in such a manner that the two ends of the fork, each of which is provided with a small ball or the like, 4 extend approximately parallel to the strip 1, and stand away from the strip by about a single thickness of'the collar.-
The closing member 1, according to Figs. 3 and 4 differs from that shown in Figs. 1 and 2 in this, that the slot 2 between the forked ends is open. The closing member according to Figs. 5 and 6 is bent from a piece of wire, so that, between the two symmetrical approximately parallel limbs 1 and 1, a slot 2 is formed at the top of which is a widened bent over gently and the wire is at this part flattened out gradually towards the end so he end portions, 7 and as not to be in the way when bending the neck, while the other end is bent .over in the same direction as the bend at 2 and for the same purpose, together with the transverse pieces 5, 5 such that, the parts 6, 6 and 7, 7
are off-set with respect to the limbs 1 and 1 be fixed by means of a stud through the studhole 9 at the back to the neck-band of the shirt, after beingplaced round the neck, is drawn together .in such ,amanner that it is not too tight round the neck, whereupon a closing member, in this case preferably that shown in Figs. 5 and 6, is slipped with the hook end downwards and with its slot 2 over the bent-over ends of the collar which-are held by the end, such that the opening 2? will rest over the seam of the upper edge of the collar. The collar is thus fixed and,-by tightening or loosening the free ends of the collar 8, 8 can be adjusted to rest more tightly or loosely against the neck. Thereupon the collar ends are bent over, as shown in Fig. 8, are slipped in under the ends of the hooked-ends 5, 6, 7, or 5, 6 7 of the fastening member and are pull-ed out straight, whereby the collar is caused to fit firmly. The collar may be worn in this manner, as the ends 8, 8 are pressed down by the uniform collar, but the appearance will be improved by the collar ends being turned over by about as shown in Fig. 9, under the fastening member, in which posi- .0 0 rd 2 S 3 sen" be case with in AF.
