roveinents in ifi-ifoundetion` vliig. 6 isa top plan view oi' my metal foundation top; While, llig. 7 is an end View of the top fastened to its foundations and showing pipe carriers adjustably secured to the top.
l have illustrated my invention as applied to :i foundation 1 which is constructed, as before stuted, oi concrete or other suituhle materiel, with a metal top 2 secured thereon.
3, 3, are countersunk slots which are so arranged es to receive the rods or bolts 4, 4,
the lower ends of which are turned in or bent et approximately right :ingles so as to register with the ends a of a pipe 5, shown in dotted lines, see Fig. 7, which passes through it 'portion of the foundation l. lt is to he noted that the slots 3, 3, ure countersunk, or sunk below the level of the upper surface of the foundation top, so as to form seats tor the nuts 6, 6, which are to be fastened on to the upper portions of the` fastening' rods il, ll, `which will permit of the top 2 being adjusted from its sides, Without in any wey interferingjvith the pipecarrying wheelsor pulleys 7, 7, which re secured to the carriers 8; thus permitting the pipes to be adjusted or elined after the foundations are put in posit-ion.
The fiundutiontop 2 contains and is formed with a plurality of transversely eX- tending,` slots or apertures 9 on hothof its side edges; these slots or apertures being for the purpose of retaining or holding carrier holt-s it), l0; the slots or apertures being formed with their one end open in order that my improved foundation top may he Capable oi" adjustment to any ofthe Standlerd pipe Carriers. Ribs or parts ll, see Figs. 2 and 7, are @aston the lower surface oi' the foundotion top to reinforce end keep 'the top securely fastenet onto its fouiidetion.Y I
At one end of the foundation'ftop l provide en extension or projection 12 with a.
14, 14, while the extension or projection 16 registers with and overlaps a countelsunk portion 124 which contains a similar bolt holev 13 and is formed in that end of thc foundation-top opposite to the extension 16; that is to say, each foundation-top section con tains the parts 12, 13 and 11 in one end thereof, and the parts 16, 15 and 13 iu the other end thereof, so that when two of these sections are placed together by means of the overlapping parts, as heretofore described, the sections will be firmly secured together; which may be accomplished in any suitable manner, such as by bolts passing through the apertures 13 and secured in position by means of the'usual nuts and washers.
Heretofore it has been the custom to cinploy foundation-tops which do not contain any of these overlapping joints or parts, the ends of the sections being placed flush up against each other in Aorder to form as tight a joint as possible between them; whereas,
it is perfectly clear that by employing my improvement, two or more sections may be securely and adjustably fastened together end for end in such a manner as to obtain a uniform spacing of the parts, that is to say, the pipes and carriers. jFurthermore,l
Where it was desired to employ three vor more foundation-tops it was heretofore necessary to employ three or more foundations, that is, one foundation for each top in order to properly support the foundationtops, while With my improvement it is necessary in snch'a case to employ but two foundations, as the overlapping joints, with their rigid bolt and nut connections, Will lio-ld the sections firmly in place Without necessitating the same number of foundations or supports heretofore put in use; thus it will be clearly seen that by the use of my improvedvdevice it will be possible to obtain the same or even better results with much greater economy.
It is clear from the foregoing that the said foundation-tops may be constructed of any desired size and may be provided with any'number of countersunk slots 3, together with any number of transversely extending apertures 9.
I have show-n andv described a preferred form of my foundation-top which 'it is clear.
provided with a pipe'openiug through its' opposite sides and a pipe carrier thereon, a foundation-to pro-vided with countersunlr aj'iertui'es, rots secured in said apertures, the lower ends of said rods heilig bent so as to engage with the pipe ends, reinforcing of said top, a plurality of lateral extensions having spaces between the saine and form-A ing bolt-receiving slots, said top being pro- ,vided with projections adapted to registerv with the projections of another foundation` top to form a tight joint.
2. The combination of tion provided with a pipe whose ends pro.- ject from opposite sides of said foundation, with a metal top having therein counterstink slots with bolts passing therethroughy and nuts on said bolts, the lower ends ofv said bolts registering with the pipe ends so :is to retain vthe top firmly .in place, and means for securing one top to another.
3. As an article of manufacture, a foundation top provided with a plurality of lateral projections spaced apart to provide bolt receiving slots, eountersunlc portions in said top provided with one or more openings to permit of adjustment'.lengthwise of the top, and projections at both ends of the top, the projection at one end comprising a central portion flush with the upper face lofthe top and portions on both sides of said central portion arranged in a horizontal plane beneath that of the central portion, while the projection at the opposite end of the top the top with the portions on opposite sides of said central portion arranged flush. withy the upper face of the to 4. A foundation top fir pipe carriers provided with one or more longitudinally extending countersiink portions having one or more bolt-receiving openings therein, a plurality of lateral projections spaced apart lto provide bolt-receiving slots, and 'projections at both ends of the top, the projection at one end being composed of a central portion flush with the vupper face 'of the top and portions on both sides of saidcentral portion arranged in a horizontal plane beneath that of the .central portion, While the projection at ythe opposite end of the top consistsof a central portion arranged in a horizontal a concrete foundaplane beneath the upper face of the topand v being provided with bolt-receiving apertures ends oftwo or' i i 120 5.
