Zur Sicherung der Eisenbahnschienenschrauben wurden bisher metallische Unterlagscheiben mancherlei Art versucht, deren Federung entweder zu gering oder so stark ist, daß beim Auftreten von Schwingungen die Sicherung gefährdet wird. Federnde Stoffe wie Gummi, Pappe u. dgl. sind für sich allein nicht genügend widerstandsfähig gegen die Witterung und gegen die würgende Beanspruchung beim Anziehen und Nachziehen der Schrauben. Bei den bisher bekannten Unterlagscheiben aus Pappe mit beiderseitigem Metallbelag ist die weiche Einlage an den Kanten weder gegen mechanische Beschädigung, noch gegen Witterung-seinflüsse geschützt; auch können die Teile der Scheibe auseinanderfallen und der Metallbelag ist in der Regel so dick gewählt, daß kein sattes Anliegen der Unterlagscheibe, an den Auflageflächen möglich wird.Up to now, metallic washers have been used to secure the rail bolts some kind of trying to keep their suspension either too little or so strong is that if vibrations occur, the fuse is endangered.
