IMPROVEMENT IN BURIAL-CASES.
To alfa-hom 'it may concern Be n known nifcniwn HUM, of Milford, Hm.- tcrdon lcounty and State of New Jersey, has invented a new and improved Coffinpr Burial-Gase, Receptacle, or Box;A4 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
`lhe prt-sent invention relates to a novel and useful box or receptacle for coiiins or other burial-cases, when deposited; in the ground, the object being to provide ,such a yreceptacle or box therefor as will not decay or rot, and willalso prevent the decay of the wood o1' other material ot' which the coin, &c., contained or inserted in it, is made; and, for this purpose,
It consists in forming the ysaid box or receptacle, or what-I deem proper to term a portable tombfiof the ordinary cement, molded either in sections or in parts,
Y or withl its body or'main portion inone piece, and its top, lid, or cover in sections or in one piece, which body and top, after the con has been placed within the saine, are cemented together in any proper 'manner ing to that of `the outside of the coiiin or burial-case l which it is to hold or contain.
In the accompanying drawing my improved coftim D, the top or lid for the body A, which lid is made of a suitable shape to entirely cover the box A, over the upper edges of the sides and ends of which it is set and fits, by its grooves,l E, made of' suitable shape therefor, and extending in the proper direction.
Both the body A and lid D are made of the ordinary and well-known cement, which, being mixed with watt-r so as to reduce it to a pasty condition, is then molded into the propel' and desired shape for the body and cover of the box, either with each in one piece, or in sections or parts cemented together, according-as may be. found most expedient for convenience in tra-nsl'i'r tation and use.
By using cement, a box or rceptacle is obtained which, while-comparatively light, is yet firm, strong, and durable, and -impenetrable to moisture, thus scouring the preservation of the wood or other material of which the cofn or burial-case inserted in the tomb vits usc.
I disclaim the conm-vault or receptacle of cement composed of two pieces, and present a modified Claim.
