Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 1, 1912. Serial No. 687,663.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BRYAN'M. VAUGHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montgomery, in the State of Alabama, have invented a new and Improved Sample-Case, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates particularly'to sample cases containing cartons .or boxes of salable merchandise, and has for its object to provide a simpler and more efiicient struc ture in the case and carton. I
My invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same which will be more fully describedhe-reim boxes 1, preferably provided with a half flap 2 as shown in Fig. 1 Each compartment is covered by swinging covers comprising respectively the outer part 5 and the inner part 4. The outer part 5 is connected by the hinges 7 with the wall of the case. The innerpart 4 is connected by the hinge 6 with the part 5 and adapted to be fastened to the inner wall of the case 9 by the flap 8- or other suitable fastener. On the inside of the swinging part 4 are provided one or more pockets 3, open-faced, and open at their inner edges so that the flaps 2 of the cartons 1 can slide thereinto and be there detachably held. Thus, whenever cover 4 is swung open,
every flap of a carton which is contained in one of said pockets 3 is instantly thrown open and all the salable merchandise therein exposed to view. Furthermore, with the open faces ofthe pockets 3, such details with respect to the merchandise as ,are desired may be written on the inner sides of the Patented Dec.17,191 2.

"I do not limit myself to the exact form in which my invention is herein disclosed further than is indicated in the claims which follow.
I claim:
1. A sample case provided with an inner cover flap, pivoted to said case and pivotally divided said flap being provided with a pocket on the part remote from itspivotal connection with said case adapted to receive a box cover thereinto and swing it open while the part of said flap adjacent said pivotal cofinection with the case is adapted to pocket a ox.
2. A sample case provided with a swinging cover flap and an inside box; said flapbeing pivotally divided into two parts, one
part being pivoted to said case and the other being free therefrom; said free part being provided with a pocket open at one edge and open on its face; said box being pocketed by the portionof said flap pivoted to said case and having a swinging cover contained in said pocket on the free part of said flap and adapted to be opened and closed by the swinging of the free part of said flap without movement of the other portion of said flap.
