Application filed September 17, 1912. Serial No. I#20H-5E To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, JAMES T.v KEYES, a
citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of -Manhattan, city of New York, State of New York,L have invented new and useful Improvements in Spring-Mattresses, of which` the following is a specification.
Myvinvention relates to wire mattresses, and has for its object to provide an improved construction of the same whereby a pocket will be provided to receive the hair or other stuffed mattress so -that the side walls of the latter will be inclosed on all sides, thus elfectually preventing the shifting or spreading thereof in any direction. Thisobject I accomplish in the manner and b the means hereinafter described and clalmed', reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved construction. Fig. 2 isa vertical transverse sectional view'of the sam Similar numerals of reference denote corresponding parts in thetwo views.
In the said drawing the reference numeral 1 denotes a woven wire mattress body of any approved constructlon, the same belng firmly attached at its ends to the under sidev of the transverse bars 2 of thexsupporting frame in any suitable manner, Ysaidtransi'erse bars beingspaced vapart by the side bars 3 fixed thereto, as shown. Said mattress body 1 is extended -at its sides suiii# ciently to be turned upwardly at 4, andthen inwardly at 5, and is suitably thickened 0r reinforcedat 6. I maintain the walls 4 and 5 in proper position by attaching the ends.
thereof tothe transverse bars 2, the'latter being recessed at 7 to countersink the edges of the walls 5 and the reinforced portions 6, as shown. v
By this construction I provide a wire mattress body and frame forming. an open top pocket to snugly receive thel hair' or other .vertical displacement, thou stuffed mattress, the transverse bars 2 preventmg any shifting or spreading thereof longitudinally, while the side wallsdihof the mattress body 1 prevent shifting orspreadinv thereof laterally, inorcements 6 en a fectua'llyreta-in the samein position against ready removal manually.
By 'recessing the upper faces of the side bars'2 at 7 to receive and countersink the lends ofthe top walls `5v and reinforcements l ainst any vsharp projections that v'might cate into- 6 of the mattress body 1, I provide and tear'the bed clothing.-
the top walls 5 and re-` ing over the top side edges of. said stu e .mattress to more ef-y permitting its Having 'thus described my invention,
what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1.. A wire mattress, embodyin'gfa` sup'- porting frame, and a mattress body attached at its ends to the under'sides of the side bars of said frame and extended upwardly at itsvside edges to form,in conjunction with said side bars, a pocket to receive .the stuffed mattress therein and to retain tie same against shifting or yspreading'laterally in any direction.
2. wire mattress, ing irame, and a mattress body attached at its ends to the under sides of the side bars fof said frame and extended upwardly vat its side edges and then inwardly to form, in
embodying a support- C" conjunction with said side bars, a' pocketA to receive .the stuffed mattress therein and to retain the same kagainst shifting or spreading laterally or' vertically in any direction.
In testimonyT whereof, I have hereunto set my hand 1n the presence oftwo subscribing witnesses.
