POULTRY-HOUSE FIXTURE.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES H. HARVEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Malvern, in the county of Hot Spring, State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Poultry-House Fixtures; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in poultry house fixtures.

An objectof this invention is to produce a fixture for poultry houses and the like consisting of a suitable frame-work adapted to removably support a plurality of nest boxes and roosts, the said frame being provided with means whereby the same can be conveniently cleaned when desired.

Another object of this invention is the provision of a fixture such as described, comprising a plurality of nest boxes in which are located sliding nest receiving drawers beveled at their outer ends for engagement with a hinged closure whereby the same will be opened as the drawers are removed, the said closure being provided with a transparent section permitting of the inspection of the nest, while the rear of the said drawer is provided with an entrance opening through which a hen may enter to the nest receiving drawer from a platform mounted in the rear thereof.

A further object of this invention is the provision of a device of the character described which will be comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and efficient in use and readily operated.

With the above and other objects in view this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more particularly described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is an end view thereof. Fig. 1 a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 44 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 55 of Fig. 1.

to the opposite side and end edges of which are secured rails 12. Spaced pairs of outer and inner vertically extending posts 13 and let are secured to the opposite sides of the base 11 adjacent the rails 12, while interposed between the posts 13 are end posts 15. The intermediate )ortion of the base 11 has extending vertically therefrom in alinement with the posts 14 inner posts 16.

The posts 13 and it as well as the posts 15 and 16 are connected by longitudinal bars 17 at their intermediate portions, while the posts 15 are connected by upper and lower bars 18 and 19, to the bars 19 of which are secured by suitable hinges 20 closing frames 21 provided with glass panels 22 and opening knobs 23. These closures are held against any undesired displacement by turn buttons or other suitable locking members 2 1 secured to the bars 18. The opposite ends of the bars 17 are connected by side rails 25 to the upper sides of whichare fastened plates 26 secured to the inner sides of the posts'13, 15, 14 and 16 and being less in widththan the width of the rails 25 providing ledges upon which together with the opposite sides of the rail 27 secured to the intermediate portion of the rails 17 slide nest receiving drawers 28.

A central plate 29 extends vertically from the rail 27 and is connected to the plates 26 by means oftop plates 30 to the forward edges of which are hinged, as indicated by the numeral 31, closures 32, each of which is provided with a central opening 33 closed by a suitable glass panel 34. These closures 32 are adapted to rest upon the beveled ends of the plates 26 and 29 and the beveled ends of the sides 35 of the nest receiving drawers 28.

The lower edges ofthe plates 35 are connected by bottom plates 36, while the rear ends are connected by plates 37, the upper edges of which are recessed as at 38, to permit the entrance of the fowl to the nest receiving drawers. The forward edges of the plates are closed at a point adjacent the lower terminals of the beveled ends by plates 37 which are extended to engage the outer faces of the rails 17 and the ends of the plates 26 and 29 thereby limiting the inward movement thereof.

Each of the plates 37 has secured thereto a knob 39 whereby the drawer may be removed at will. Obviously as the drawers are moved outwardly the hinged closures 32 are raised permitting access to the nests through the front ends thereof. The upper ends of the posts 15 and 16 are each provided with a centrally disposed opening 40 in which are located the depending ends of U -shaped supporting members 41. The horizontal portions of these members 41 extend through openings 42 formed transversely of a plurality of roosting bars 43, while located beneath the said roosting bars 43 .are a series of superimposed platforms or plates 44.

Each of the plates or platforms 44 comprises a pair of spaced end bars 45 connected at their upper edges by longitudinally extending slats 46, while to the intermediate portion of this said slat is secured a stop 47. A rod 48 is secured to the lower face of the plate 44 and extends through openings formed in the upper ends of the rails 45 adjacent the lower faces of the slats 46. This rod projects beyond the platform or plate for engagement with apertures 49 located in the bars 18. The opposite edge of the plate 44 to that to which the rod 48 is secured has slidably located thereunder in suitable eyes or guides 50 movable rods 51 provided with off set terminals, whereby the same may be moved longitudinally with respect to platform 44. The inward movement of these rods 51 is limited by the stops 47, while the inner terminals of the said rods are 01? set as at 52 to provide a means whereby they may be forced into and out of engagement with openings 53. A lower plate 54 is arranged below the plate 44 and connected in a similar manner to the inner edges of the bars 19.

Supporting rails 55 are secured to the inner sides of the rails 13, 15, 14 and 16 and have secured thereto cleaning plates 56. These plates 56 are so elevated at their inner edges as to provide an inclined surface slanting toward the rails 12. Plates 56 extend beyond the posts 15 and 16 and are engaged by the beveled lower edges of the plates 54 when the same have been released at one edge thereof and slanted downwardly. The upper plate 44 when released at one sideslants downwardly and engages the upper face of the plate 54 which engagement obviously produces a means whereby the same may be very readily cleaned by a suitable implement.

Inclined runways 57 are secured to the inner edges of the posts 14 and 16 and are adapted to engage the opposite edges of the plates 54 when they are arranged in a horizontal position. These inclined runways provide a means whereby the fowls may reach the platform 54 from which they may enter the nesting boxes 32 through the recessed ends 37- of the nest receiving drawers 28.

From the foregoing disclosure it will be manifest that a fixture for poultry houses or the like is provided which will answer all the necessary requirements of such a device.

Having thus fully described this invention, what I claim as new and desire to obtain by Letters Patent is 1. The combination in a device such as described, of a base, posts secured thereto, rails connecting some of said posts, nesting boxes supported by the rails and posts, drawers slidable within said nesting boxes and being provided with openings formed in their inner ends, hinged platforms secured to some of said rails, means for locking said platforms in their normal positions, slanting platforms carried by the posts and engaging the hinged platforms when the hinged platforms are lowered, U-shaped members removably secured to the posts and bracing the same and roosting bars connecting the U-shaped members.

2. The combination in a device of the nature described, of a base, posts extending therefrom, rails connecting several of the said posts, plates connecting several of the said posts, nesting boxes slidable between said plates, hinged closures secured to the nesting boxes and engaging the beveled ends thereof, nest receiving drawers slidable within the nesting boxes and provided with beveled ends whereby the hinged closures will be raised as the nest receiving drawers are removed, inclined platforms secured to the lower ends of the posts, platforms secured to several of said rails, rods secured to the platforms and engaging apertures formed in the rails producing a hinged support for the platforms, the said platforms adapted when lowered to engage the inclined plates, rods slidably mounted upon said platforms and adapted to engage apertures formed in several of said rails for the purpose of retaining said platforms against displacement, U-shaped members connecting the posts and preventing the displacement thereof and roosting bars engaging said U-shaped members as and for the purposes set forth.
