li'ej 'rtgsknown that 1, WILLIAM E. SMITH, a 011312812] of the United States, residing at Pineyille, in the county of Bell and State of Kentueky, have invented new and useful 1mprovements in Combined Strainers and Funhelsf; of which the followingis a specifica- "An object of the invention is to provide a combined funnel and strainer, particularly adaptable for straining foreign substances from fluids. The invention embodies more particularly neck adapted to slidably receive a spout member, which when connected with the funnel body will constitute a spout therefor,
spout body and adapted to frictionally en-' gage the outer sides of the funnel body and a strainer cloth adapted to be interposed between the neck of the said funnel body and the neck of thesaid spout body to strain foreign substances from fluids poured into the funnel body. I y" In the further disclosure of the invention, reference is tobe had to the accompanying drawings constituting a part, of the specification, intwhich similar characters of net-- erence denote.corresponding partsiin all the Figure 1' is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional vie'w. Fig. is a horizon-v tal sectional :.view.ta ken on the line 3-.3 in Fig. 1. 1
Referring more particularly to'the views, I provide a funnel bo'dy 10 terminating at the-lower .end in a tapering neck 11, a cir cular bottom 12- being formed on the funnel body 10 between the neck 11 and the funnel able engagement with the neck 11, the said neckwhen ,arranged in slidable engagement spring-like gripping members 14 having the upper ends thereof provided with integral hooks 15 adapted to extend over the upper edge of the funnel body 10, to retain the spout body '13 in' engagement with the funnel body' 10.
Astrainenploth 16, such as chamois or the lower end of the neck 11, the said cloth being engaged by the spout body 13 to retain the strainer cloth in rigid position between the neck 11 and the spout body 13. It will be understodd that a flexible metal sieve or the like can be employed in place of the strainer cloth, the provision of the mentioned metal sieve being dependable upon the particular fluid which is to be strained.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that a funnel can be used independently of the spout bodywh'en it is desiredto simply pour a fluid from one container to another without straining the same and when it is desired ,to strain a fluid, the spout body 13 and strainer cloth 16 can be used in connection with the funnel body 10 as shown in the views. f
1. A :combined funnel and strainer comprising a funnel body, a tapering neck formed on the lower end of said funnel body, a circular bottom formed on the funnel body,
between the said neck and t-he said funnel body, a tapered spout body for slidable engagement with the neck of the funnel body,
like is mounted to cover the opening-in the i a strainer cloth interposed between the neck body, a circular bottom formed on the funnel body between the said neck and the said funnel body, a tapered spout body for slidable engagement with the neck of the funnel body, a strainrcloth interposed between the neck of the fhlIlnBl body and the spout body,'spring-like gripping members secured ,to the spoutbody and adapted to frictionally. engage the said funnel body and hooks ping'members and adapted to extend over the upper edge; ofthe funnel body.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
