Description

T; MORGAN.
I Wagon Standard.
No. 104,628. Patented June 21, 1870 V 'A W AV A v -Qtttiy s'rwentov.
aw, I
THOMAS Mono-div, on MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN.
Letters Patent No. 104,628, dated June 21, 1870.
* IMPROVEMENT IN BOLSTER-PLATES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To rwhomitanay concern." a a Beit "known that I, THOMAS .MORGAN, of Marquette,ln the county of Marquette and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Flanged Bolster-Plates; and I do declare that the followingis a true and accurate description thereof, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawing and l to the lettersof referencemarked thereon, and being a partof this specification, in whiohl. t Figure Us a perspective of my invention, and
Figure 2is a longitudinal section of the same. t Like letters refer tolike parts in each figure.
' The 'nature 'of this invention relates to the construction of bolster-plates, with the necessary stakes combined,'and is designed to be used as a cap or covering to the ordinary bolster. of awagon, thereby obviating the frequent breaking of the stakes as ordinarily used, and providing a cover for the bolstei", by means of which it is preservedfromthe action of the weather.
The invention consists in a cap,ca'st in any suitable metal, with flanges projecting downward, forthe purpose of covering the bolsteigto which it is secured by proper bolts; and is, also, provided with the uecessary stakes, the whole being cast in one piece. a V In the drawingf A represents my bolster-plate or cap, of cast-iron or other suitable metal, provided with the downwardprojectiug flanges a.
Cast upon and to this bolster are the stakes B, with the strengthening-flanges 71'. Y
e are bolt-holes, through which are inserted proper bolts, for securing the plate to the'bolster. 1 I
A common wooden bolster is constructed, to the top of which is fitted the cap, with itsflauges projecting down the sides of the bolster.
By the use of a device, as above described, the time. and trouble of inortising the stake into the holster is saved; also, the liability of the stake breaking is greatly lessened.
After the wooden bolster has become worn, the cap can be removed, and a new bolster substituted for the old one; with but little expense.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The flanged bolster-plate A, with downward flanges a, and provided with stakes, B, with sttengthening- 'flanges, b, cast vin one piece, in zconneotiou with and secured toa suitable bolster, when constructed as described, and for the purposes set forth.
