Be it known that I, WILEY S. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in thecounty of Douglas and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dish-Vashers, of which the following is a specification.
- This invention relates to washing machines and the object of the invention is to provide'a simple and efficient device of this character whereby a pluralityflof dishes of all characters may be conveniently and expeditiously cleansed.
Further objects of this invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connect-ion with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and in which:-

ing legs, each pair being pivotally connected at its upper end, as shown at-Q, and being held in separated relation at their opposite ends by means of struts 3, preferably pivoted to one of the legs and engaged by a hook and eye with the other, thereby permit-- ting the legs to be folded when necessary. Pivoted upon the legs at their connecting point is a casing 4 which comprises the side members 5, bottom member 6, top member 7 to the latter of which are hinged suitable doors 8 adapted to close the opening 9. The bottom 6 is tapered downwardly on a curve so as to produce a dish compartment 10 which is defined by foraminous partitions 11 carried upon the removable braces or supports 12. These supports carry suitable spacing pins 13 which project into the compartment 10 and also have pivoted thereto suitable gates 14 which operate in the restricted ends 15 of the casing, as shown. The casing has secured therein in the bottom of the compartment 10, suitable dish supporting cleats 16 and one of the side members is provided with a bung hole which is stopped wit-h an ordinary bung 17.
In the operation of the device, the dishes are placed in the compartment and are held in separated relation by the pins 13. A quantity of water is placed in the casing, and the receptacle rocked upon its pivots by means of the handles 18. As the same is rocked, the water passes through the foraminous partitions and raises the gate in the lower end, thereby gaining access to the compartment immediately above it. Upon tilting the receptacle in the opposite direction, the water passes over the top of the gate and pours over the dishes in the compartment and passing through the foraminous partition on the opposite side acts to raise the gate which is in lowermost position. In this manner, it will be seen that when the dishes are traveling in one direction, the
water will be traveling in the opposite direction, thereby effectually cleansing the dishes in a comparatively short time.
What is claimed is 2- 1. In a washing machine, supporting means, a casing pivot-ally mounted thereon, a dish compartment in the casing, and gates arranged on opposite sides of the compartment, and adapted to direct the water thereinto.
2'. In a washing machine. supporting legs, a casing pivotally mounted thereon, foraminous partitions mounted in the casing and forming a dish compartment, means for supporting the partitions, and gates carried by the supporting means and adapted to direct the water into the compartment.
3. In a washing machine, supporting means, a casing pivotally mounted upon the supporting means, bars removably mounted in the casing, dish separating members carried thereby, foraminous partitions carried by the bars, and gates carried by the bars,
and adapted to direct the water into the compartment.
4. In a washing machine, an oscillating I receptacle, means for holding articles to be washed in the center of said receptacle whereby when the receptacle is moved in one direction the cleaning fluid will pass through" the articles to one end of the receptacle, and a' gate in said end adapted,when the receptacle is moved in the other direction to direct the cleaning fluid on top of the articles to be cleaned.
