Referring particularly to Figs 1 and. 2, the attachment isshown positioned on a bed, the relation of the parts being suchthat the spring is maintained in a horizontal plane gfvvhereby the bed is in normal position for use; when a patient or invalidoccupying the bed desires to assume a sitting posture,

The particular material of which the attachment is made is, of course, largely-a matter of choice and certain facts, such as the finish and material of the bed with which the attachment is to be used, will be con sidered in the construdtion of the attachments, such changes being included within the spirit of the appended claims.

' Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure byiL-etter's Patent 1. An attachment for beds comprising a frame, means on the frame whereby it may be positioned on the bed, the sides of the said frame adjacent one end being offset, a pivoted frame on the first frame and adjacent the said oli'set end, links movably carried by the sides of the second frame, together with means carried'by the first frame and engag ing the said'links whereby the second frame may be moved into ditierent positions.

An attachment forbeds comprising a frame having means thereon whereby it may be secured in position on a bed, thesides of fi1lSv27p 28, will be rotated and the blocks the said frame adjacent one end being ofi oti set, a second frame pivotally carried by 'th first frame, the said second frame being po siiioned adjacent the said offset ends, a

3. An attachment for beds comprising a frame having means thereon whereby it may be positioned on a bed, one end of each of so 1 the sides of the said frame being offset, a second frame pivotally mounted on the first frame adjacent the said offset ends thereof,

a spring extending between the end of the first frame and the end of the said second 5 frame, links in pivotal engagement with the sides of the second frame, cross pieces carried by the first frame, a plurality of worms movably mounted in the cross pieces, the said worms being in engagement with the said links whereby, when the worms are turned,"the links will be moved, the second frame together with the spring being thereby elevated into different positions.

An attachment for beds comprising a frame, one end of each side of the frame being offset, a second frame movably carried by the first frame adjacent the said offset portions, a spring between the cndof the first frame and the end of the second frame, links 160 inovably connected with the sides of the second frame, cross pieces carried by the first frame, Worm gears carried by the cross pieces, the Worm gears being in engagement withthe ends of the. said links, together with means connecting the worms whereby movement of one will also turn the other, the links beingthereby moved and the second frame and the portion of the spring adjacent thereto being brought into different positions.

5. An attachment for' beds comprising a frame, one end of each side of the frame be ing offset, a second frame, the sides of the second frame being in pivotal engagement with the first frame adjacent the offset sides, a spring extending between one end of the first frame and the end of the second frame adjacent thesaid offset ends, links in pivotal engagement with the sides of the second frame, a plurality of cross pieces carried by said 'vorms, a gear at the outer end of each worm, means on one of the worms whereby it may be turned, together with a chain engaging the gears whereby turning of the worms will move the blocks therealong, thereby raising the second frame and with it the portion of the spring adjacent thereto whereby the second frame may be moved into and retained in different positions.
