Be itknown that I, WIIJJAM'C. .Wmim's, oi Minneapolis, Hennepin county, Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Boxes, ofzwhich i this type in which a locking plate or tongue is provided at the end of the box having a portion that'is visible from the outside and on which a name or suitable advertising mattermay be placed. Further the invention consists in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out inthe claims. V V

It becomes unnecessary, then, to place objectionable or prominent advertising matter on the top of the cover, as the removable plate forms a neat, convenient means by which the person or firm sending out the box can advertise the business. In Fig. 6 the end 8 of the box has curved slits 17 formed therein into which the edges of the plate 14 are inserted beneath the projections 18 formed by the slits 17. The flap 9 has in this case, preferably, a straight out or slit 19. The end of the plate 14 corresponding to the one shown in Fig. 3 is thrust into the slit 19 in the same manner as in the box shown in Fig. 3, thereby locking-he side and end walls together.

. Fig. 7 the end wall 8 is cut lengthwise, forming a loop 20, between which and the end wall of the box the late 21 is inserted. This plate has promotions 22 at one end which engage the loop and form stops to limit the movement of the plate. The opposite end of the plate has a tongue 23 formed thereon that is adapted to enter a slit 24 in the flap 9 and when this flap is folded up over the edge of the end wall, the tongue will be bent at the point where it unites with the: plate 21 and the end of the tongue folded in over the middle portion of the plate and secured thereto and to the wall of the box by a staple 25 or other suitable means. The rectangular ortion of the plate 21 will be exposed, as in icated in Fig. 9, to form a surface upon which a name 01 other marks may be placed.

I claim as my invention 1. A folding box comprising a sheet of flexible material having its longitudinal and transverse edges creased and folded to form side and end walls, said end walls having longitudinal slits therein and a plate adapted to be inserted through the slits in said end walls and on the outer side of the strip formed between said slits, whereby a portion of said plate will be exposed to receive a name or character visible from the outside of the" box, and said plate having means reventin its displacement in said slits.

2. A f0 ding box composed of a sheet of flexible materlal having folded portions at the sides and ends thereof, said end wall having a flap extendin len hwise thereof 1 and provided with a I ongitudinal slit, a

plate adapted. to enterslits centrallge arranged'in said end wall, said plate ing inserted on the outer side of the strip between said end wall slits, whereby a portion of the plate will be visible to receive a name or advertising matter, said plate having a locking tongue at its inner end that is adapted to be folded upwardly and outwardl to enter the slit in said flap when it is f0 ded inwardly and downwardly over said end wall, thereby locking said flap and wall together.

3. A material havin its longitudinal and transverse edges fol ed to form the side and end walls of the cover, said end wall having a flap extending transversely of the cover and.

adapted to be folded inwardly to inclose the creased and foldedend portions of the side walls, said fla' having a longitudinal slit therein and sa1d end wall having slits and aplate adapted to enter the slits in said end wall and be visible from the outside of the cover, said plate having a tongue at one folding box composed flexible end adapted to enter the slit in said flap,

said tongue being folded inwardly with said flap, and means securing the inwardly folded portion of saidtongue to said end wall and to the opposite end of said plate, for the purpose specified.
