l IMPROVED METALLIC BRACKET.

JUDD, of New Haven, in tbe State of Connectlcut, have invented and vmade an Improvement in p Metallic Brackets; andthe following is declared to be a correct description thereof. 1

Thisinventon relates to means for connecting the bracket to the back-plate, so as to fold and occupy but little space in transportation. The shelf connected with the bracket andtbackplate are'supported very firmly but removably from the wall by hookplates.

and partof the shelf, `and p Figure 2 is a section at the line x l This., invention has no reference to the design ofthe ornamentation, or to the special shape of the bracket. The back-plate` a is of the desired size and shape,

`and at the'bottom is a socket, b, into which the lower endo of the bracket c passes, as seen in fig. 2, and

forms apintle or hinge to the bracket c.

The back-plate ais made with projecting hnge-lugs d to take a lug, c, upon the bracket-c, and a pin passing through these forms a hinge,upon which and the pintle o the bracket c can swing back against the face of theback-plate a.,so as to takebut little space inY transportation, and at the same time a firm and rehable connection is made of the two parts.

The back-plate a may extend both sides of the hinge .d c, as shown in fig,` 1, or only at one side 'to form a corner bracket.

The shelf d sets at its back edge upon a ledge, 2,

and beneath projecting flanges o 'r, (see fig. 1,) and a pin., s, upon the upper edge of the bracket o, is provided for entering a hole in the shelf d', to retain the parts in their proper respective positions, and allows of their being easily slipped apart and packed for transportation.

In order to support the bracket, we make use of hook-plates h, screwed upon the-wall or other place of attachment, and upon these the horizontal bar a of the back-plate a rests, and the vertical portions of the hooks pass up into mortices through the shelf df, as shown, so as as to secure the parts in a very firm manner, and allow of the removal of the bracket from the wall without taking .ont the hook-plates. 1

The shelf d is reversible, and made with a `rim around its edgeprojecting on one side only, so-that it` maybe placed with either the rim or flat surface nppermost, according to the article that is to bereccived upon the shelf.` Y

We claim as our invention- 1. The metallic bracket c, and back-plate a, connccted by the Vhinges e (l, socket l), and 'pintle o, in f combination with the removable shelf, as set forth.`

2. The hook-plates h, to be screwed, to the wall 01 support, inlcombination with the back-plate a, crosspiece a', and shelf (l, the ends of the plates h entering Iorticcs in the shelf (l, as and for the purposes speci ed.
