Letters Patent No. 104,456, dated June 2l, 1870.
IMPROVED SIDE-SADDLE.
The Schedule referred toin these Letters Patent and`making part of the same New York, inthe county and State of New York,
have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sidel i Sva'ddles; and I do hereby declare that the following "Fis a full, clear, and. exact description thereof, which willvenable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
. i `This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in side-saddles, whereby beauty, simplicity,A and cheapness are secured; and
It consists in combiningin one piece, the seat-piece, spring-piece, and jockey of `the tree-covering; also a y `recess in the side of the near horn, whereby theentire covering is made continuous and smooth, and the side of the horn is made to appear light and ornamental. i i
In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 represents a side-saddle made accordingto my invention.
Figure 2 is a cross-section of the horn on the line' "',Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.` i l y As side-saddles have heretofore been made, thetreei covering has been put on` in three pieces, that is' the y seat-piece, the spring-piece opposite to and in front of therhorn, and what is called the jockey, the piece below and back of the left horn.
These pieces are marked off in the drawing to show how the tree-covering has been hitherto put on. These parts are divided by the lines A and B on the drawing, and the joints thus formed are unsightly and objectionable.
