Description

waited gister;
@me cmo.
GEORGE LANE, oENEWvoRK, N. Y.
Letters 'Patent No; 99,918, dated Femary 15, 1870.
IM'PROVEMENT IN NECK-TIES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Tc all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE LANE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Neck-Tics, the same constitntng a new article of manufacture; andI do here' by declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification,
' ends oi' the tie formed by the united sections becoming worn or defaced, the stitching luniting said sections may he picked or out and the ends of the sections reversed; that is, the ends of the sections previously tacked together'brought in front, while the original front ends of the tie are tacked together.
In this way the back of the tie, which is comparu tively protected when the article is in use, may be readily. made to take the place of the front portion when worn or eiaced, and that not unfreqnent-ly occurs while the rest of the tie is in good order or condition, owing to the usuall frequent tying and untying and exposure of the tie at its ends or in front. By
making the tie, however, with four ends, as described, that is each section with two finished ends, and tacking the sections together as specified, a reversible character is secured to the tie as regards the substitution y of its rear for its front portion without any cutting or tting of new ends, andvsuoh change or reversal made in a few moments by other than' an expert or seamstress.
A neck-tie with lreversible ends, as described, cony stitutes a new article of manufacture, and will prove very economical, and the same may be put upon the market at but little or no greater cost than neck-ties as ordinarily made having two ends only.
In the accompanying drawing, which represents my improved necli-tie A and B represent the two sections, each formed with two finished ends, a b, that may be reversed and tacked together as represented and herein before de-A scribed.
vAnother advantage may be found in the adjust'alo'il` ity of such neck-tie as to length, by increasing or decreasing the lap of the joined ends.
Vthat is here claimed, and desired to be secured byy Letters Patent, is-
, A neck-tie, formed in sections, the ends of which are finished so as to be reversible as front or exposed.
ends, substantially as shown and described,
l GEO. LANE.
