IMPROVED BED-BOTTOM.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent andmaking pari: of the same.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ENocH HOPKINS, of Newaygo, in the county of Newaygo and State of Michigan, have invented cert-ain new and useful Improvements in Bed- Bot-toms; :mdd do hereby declare that the following'is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the let-ters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a bed-bottom, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.

1n `order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, l. will now proceed to describe its construction and opei'-, ation, refering to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is-a plan view; and v v Figure 2 is a longitudiiml vertical section of my iluproved bed-bottom.

A represents a bedfstead made in any desired manner, and of any suitable dimensions.

At each end of the'bedstead, and at the lower edges of its sides, is secured a cross-bar, B, and a suitable distance above the same on each end piece, is secured a Slat, C, said s-lat and crosslbar beingj connected by upright pieces, D D, placed at equal distances, forming' spaces between them of the same width as the bedslats E E, the ends of which are inserted between said pieces. At the ends of the bed-slats E E, which run longitudinally in the bedstead, are pins, G G, which extend vertically downward through holes in the cross-barB. Each of these pins is surrounded by a coil sprhlg,.H, l which rests upon the cross-bar forcing the slat E up against the under edge of the stationary slats O U. By this means the bed-slats are guided sothat they cannot move, except veitically'up and down.

Having thus fully described my invention, v What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
