IMPROVEMENT IN BOLT-HOLDERS.
The Schedule referred in in these Letters Patent :ind making part i the same.
l, SPICER R. BUTTERFIELD, of Rome, in the county of Oneida and State of N ew York', have invented an improved Bolt-Holder, kof which the following is a specification.
Nat-ure and Objects 0f the I nvention.l
My invention consists of a tool to hold the head of a bolt firmly jammed against the object, so that it may not be turned by the application ofthe wrench to the nut.
Description of the Accompanying Drawing. The device is' exhibited by a perspective view.
General Description..
A is a two-pronged claw, designed to catch over an object through .which the boltris passed, and leave an opening between the prongs, which may beoccnpied by the nut, and gives facility for the movement of the jaws of the wrench.
At the heel of the claw A a nut, B, is swiveled, having bearings in the cheeks, l) l), of the claw.
Through this swivelefl nut passes the screw C, which has a point, c, and a handle, D. l
Operation. The claw A bein" hooked over an obeot and the bolt Idriven through the saine, the screw C is retractedl or advanced to such an extent as to allow the point c to be forcibly driven against the head of the bolt, to press it rinly againt the object through which it has been passed.
The nut, being placed on the threaded portion of the bolt which protrudcs through the object, is then screwed home to its seat against the side of the object opposite to that against which the head ot' the bolt is pressed.
'lhe distance between the prongs allows the nut to be applied, and also gives room for the jaws of the wrench to revolve with the nut without interference by the claw.
Claim.
What I claim as new is- The tw0-pronged claw A, furnished with a swxveled nut, B, and a pointed screw-shaft, C, substantially as described and represented.
