It is the object 'ot the present inrention to provide a standard or holder wherein a book, such a5 a telephone directory, may he supported and yieldingly held against dieW placement, the support a eera-teh-.pad and apeneil. The article is designed forA attachment to a walt and is shaped up from msingle piece of resilient sheet metal.

The details of the invention will he better understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein` Figure l is a perspective View of the .-;tandard with the hook, pad and pencil in place; Fig. 2 is a sectional plan showing the clips under which theA oaek ot the pad is held; Fig. 3 is a Sectional elevation through the center of the standard.

ln the construction showna 'the article is ,stamped or preesed'trom a single piece ot a vtlat hase l, which can he placed directlyv against the wall o't' the room and there held hy ecrewrs` or tacks paasingithrough the central holes 2 and 3. This tlat bane is providedV with longitudinal swages it and 5 located near the edges ot thebase and 'extending almost to the bottoni thereof. The extreme lower edge ot the hase is cut away at. 6 to torni a plurality of integral projections T and which are curled up `to form a ledge or pocket in which a pencil 9 may he placed. The opening- 6 permits ready removal ot the pencil and the curled projections T and 8 stiften the lower portion of the fiat hase and give it rigidity.

Struck up `from the center ot hase l, is an integral tongue l0 having a shoulder ll on which a hook 1Q may rest, said tongue being lient upward to iorln a platform on which .a pad may he lsupported. The tongue l0 1s sutciently resilient to press against the eide ot' the hook and therebyT yieldingly hold ity in position.
