Be it known that I, WILLIAM STEPHEN- son, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Madison, in the county of Dane and State of Wisconsin, have invented' new and useful Improvements in Oar-Locks, of which the following is a speeiiieation.
My present invention relates to improvements in oar locks and has particular application to locks for the oars of fishing boats,

In carryingout the invention, it' is my purpose to provide a lock of the type set forth whereby the oars may be manipulated with facility and convenience to propel thev boat and prevented from detaching themselves from the boat in the event of such oars being released by the operator.
. lt is also my purpose to provide an oar lock which shall embrace the` desired features of simplicity, efficiency and durability and which may be attached to .any style of oar without changing the structure of such oar.
With the above andv other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, rombination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.

yReferring now to the accompanying drawing in detail, a boat oar is indicated at und attached to t-he body of such oar beyond 'the blade is my imprcved oar lock designated as an entirety by the letter B.
rThis oar lock, shown, embodies an attaching plate l in the form of an elongated strip and provided with aconcaved surface f" in cross section designed to coincide with the curvature of the body of the oar'so that the attaching plate and oar may present, to all intents and purposes, an integral structure, the attaching plate l being provided with spaced longitudinally arranged apertures 3 adapted to receive screws or thel like fastening devices whereby such plate may be rigidly and securely fastened to the oar. This oar lock also includes a pivot post 4t adapted to enter a socket in the gunwale of the'boat to which the Voar is applied. This. pivot post et, is pivotally connected to the,

In the modified form of the invention shown in Fig. 3, the lower surface of the attaching plate l is provided with depending parallel spaced ears 10, l0 between 'which is inserted an ear ll carried by the end l2 of the pivot post it, such cars being provided with alining apertures designed to receive a pivot pin lli, the plate 'l in this instance being preferably provided with an aperture 14 which aperture arranged between the ears if). l() so as to permit free movement of the parts and minimize friction.
