STOVEPIPE ATTACHMENT.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH H. ALLEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sedalia, in the county of Pettis and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stovepipe Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to devices for retaining stove pipes in thimbles and for hold ing the pipe collars in proper position.

The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple and eilicient device which will be cheaply manufactured and sold and which will be conveniently applied so as to secure the stove pipe within the thimble and, at the same time, secure the collar against the wall.

Further objects of this invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a view showing the pipe and attaching device in elevation. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken through the pipe, the thimble, and the wall. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the attachment removed from the pipe and thimble,

Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents a wall suitably apertured to receive the flue thimble 2. This fine thimble is constructed, as is usual, with an overhanging flange 3 to engage the wall,

which flange in this instance is cut away to receive the retainer a which. is driven between the outer face of the thimble and the wall or the flue aperture. The retainer is held secured in position by having a right angular head secured to the wall by fastening devices and its opposite end bent over the inner edge of the flue thimble, as shown at 6. The head is provided with a raised rib 7 which forms a groove for the passage of the locking device, to be hereinafter described.

The pipe 8, when seated in the flue thimble, is provided with an aperture 9 adapted to receive the end of the locking device and the collar 10 formed to fit close to the wall over the head 5 and has a groove 11 to receive the locking device. having an elongated leg 12 adapted to enter the groove formed by the rib 7 and enter the aperture 9 in the pipe, thus locking the pipe against movement in the thiinble 2. Intermediate the ends of the strand, the locking device is bent at right angles and formed into a spring coil 13, the terminal of which is extended substantially parallel to the leg 12 and ends in a down turned portion 1a, which overhangs the collar 10 and securely holds the same in position against the wall.

It will be noted that after the retainer has been secured to the wall and to the thimble, all that is necessary is to place the pipe in the thimble and aline the aperture therein with the groove in the head of the retainer, slip the collar over the pipe, and insert the long end of the locking device into the groove and aperture. In so doing, the short leg with its downturned portion will ride over the collar into the position shown in Fig. 2 and thus hold itself against dis placement and against removal from the thimble and the collar in place against the wall.

What is claimed is 1. In combination, an ape-rt-ured wall, a thimble therein, a retaining device secured to the wall and engaged with the thimble to prevent movement of said thimble, an aper tured pipe, a collar surrounding the pipe and engaged with the wall, and a locking device passing through the retainer and through the pipe and having means to hold the collar against the wall.

2. In combination, an apertured wall, a thimble secured therein, a retaining device connected to the thimble and to the wall and having an aperture therein, an apertured pipe seated in the thimble, a collar surrounding the pipe and engaged with the wall, and a spring locking device having a leg extending through the aperture in the retainer and pipe and provided with a leg to overhang the collar.
