Be it known that we, JOHN B. Russ and HENRY Jr.V STUART, citizens of the United States, residing at Shelton, county of Fairfield,` State of Connecticut, and Ansonia, county-of New Haven, State of Connecticut, respectively, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Button Tab-Ends, of which the following is afull, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to a new and improved button and loop hose supporter fastening, the obj eet of the said invention being to'provide a construction whereby the button part may be entirely covered on both front and rear with part of the fabric tab by which it is supported, the threading also being such that only one length of tape is required tosuspend the button from the upper part of the loop.

In the drawings, Figure l represents a front view of the fastener complete and relatively enlarged. Fig. 2 is an' edge elevation thereof partly in section. Fig. Sis a plan view of the button part detached. Fig. 4: is a View of the reverse side ot' the lower party of the tab, with the button attached as shown in Fig. l. Figs. 5, 6, 7 and 8 show respectively successive steps 'in the method of threading the tab end through the button part.

l represents a loop or frame having the usual keyhole slot therein; 2 represents z a loop at the top connected to the top bar of the frame l by a metal clamp 3; 4 is a flexible fabric tab made of the usual nonelastic webbing, the upper end of which is clamped tightly around the bar at the upper end of the frame l, being held thereto by the clamp 3. In this instance the clamp 3 embracesythe lower bar of the loop 2 loosely, so that said loop may, if desired,

partake of a slight swinging or pivotal movement within the clip 3. l

5 represents a button or stud proper, the same being of any suitable form, vin this instance being of the usual conventional button shape.

6 represents a base plate to which the shank of the button 5 is secured.

7, 8 and 9 are slots in the base plate 6. The two vslots 8 and 9 are arranged in the plate 6 below-the button 5, while the single slut 7 is above the button.

The tape 4 is threaded through the plate 6 and around the buttonmember in the following inanner: Referring to Fig.: 5, which shows the irst step, it will be seen that one end of the tape 4 is passed from the front to t-he rear through .the slot 8. This end is then passed back from the rear to the front through the slot 9, as shown in Fig'. 6. vThe sameendx is .then turned backwardly` up against the rear ofthe base 6', and passedthrough the upperslot 7 from the rear to the front, as shown in Fig. 5. The other end of the tape 4, namel ,the end shown in Figs. 5 and 7 at the le of the plate 6, is then turned up over the head of the button 5 and passed through the slot7 from the front to the rear, as shown in FigJS, said upper slot 7 being preferably slightly larger than the slots 8 and'9 s0 as to permit the two layers of tape tostand therein. The upper end ofthe tape is now extended upwardly, and may be secured in the manner previously described, or in-any other satisfactory manner, to theupper part of the frame l, leaving the wider lpart ,of the keyhole opening in v.thefranne 1 free to permit the 'now covered but-ton head to be passed through in the usual'inanner in atcaching or detaching the button and loop.

Heretofore, in threading a button of this type in'such away as to entirely cover the rear of the plate 6, as well as the button, it has been necessary to extend the two' .ends of the tape to the top supporting bar of the loop frame l., By the present-improvement, only one length ofmaterial may be extended up to said supporting bar, and hence,a substantial saving in tape is etected overthat required heretofore where the same ends are to be attained. 1 This invention has, therefore, for its object, not only a construction and'inethod of threading which will secure the complete rustless effect, but also such a method of threading as will attain the aforesaid end, land also 'result in substantial economy.
