To all whom it may concern:

3e it known that I, NELSON Y. Townsnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dresden, in the county of Yates and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Beds, of which the following is a specitication.

This invention relates to collapsible beds suit .ible for camping and other places where it is desired to transport furniture from place to place, and has for one of its obpccts the provision of a bed that is capable of being folded into the smallest compass for transportation and storage, and when extended and set up for use is unusually strong and durable.

Another ob'ect of my invention is the provision of a bed of the character described that is reasonable in cost of manufacture and capable of use in households, as well as camping and other places.

My invention will be described in detail hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, 111 which,

The frame of my improved bed consists of the end bars 1 having legs 2 pivota'lly secured thereto with" hook members 3 pivotally secured to said legs and adapted to engage the pin l secured to the end bar 1.-

1, and 7 indicates a link pivotally secured to the free terminal of the side bar 5 and having a slot 8 therein that is adapted to engage a hooked pin 9 on the side bar 6.' 1

10 indicates a flanged support on the terminal of the side bar 6 that engages the upper edge of the link 7 when in locked position.

5 and 6 and the link 7 are all constructed with laterally extending flanges 5, ti and 7 respectively, to give rigidity to said bars and at the same time, the flange on the bar 6 by engaging the upper edge of the link 5 when in a locked position, cooperates with the flange 10 heretofore described to hold the three portions of the side bars 5, (i and 7 rigid, when in a set up position.

It will be understood from this construction that the bed is set up by lowering the legs 2 intoa position at right angles to the end bars 1 and securing the hooks 3 on the pin 4. The

5 and 6 are then swung outwardly of the end bars 1, the link 7 then swung outwardly of the bars (3 and the slots 8 secured in position on the hook pins. J. \Vhen in this position, the bed is ready for use and is sufliciently strong to hold a great Weight.

When the bed is to be transported or stored, the frame is collapsed by releasing the link 7 -from engagement with the pins 9 on the side bars 5 and swung upwardly into engagement with the end bars (5. 5 and 6 with the link 7 are then folded on the end bars 1 over the legs 2 and hooks 55. The screen fabric is then rolled on one of the end bars 1 and the bed will be in a collapsed position, as shown in Fig. 9 for ready transportation, and when in that position, will take up a minimum amount of space for storage.

Having thus described my invention what I claim is 1. In a collapsible bed, end bars, a flexible bed bottom secured to said end bars, legs pivotally secured to said end bars, side bars pivotally secured to the terminals of said end bars, a link pivotally secured to one of each pair of said side bars, and means to collapsibly secure said links to the other of.

In a collapsible bed, end bars, a collapsible bed bottom secured to said end bars, legs pivotally secured to said end bars, side bars pivotally secureci'to theterminals of the end bars, said side bars having laterally extending flanges on their upper edges, a link pivotally secured toone of each pair of side bars, said link having a flange extending laterally of its upper 'edge and a slot adjacent to its outer terminal, a hooked pin secured to the other of each pair of said side bars and adaptedto engage the slot in the link aforesaid, and a flanged support on the outer terminal of the last mentioned side bars. 7

4. A collapsible bed comprising end bars,

a flexible bed bottom secured to said end bars, legs pivotally secured to said end bars,v

of hooks secured to each leg, a pin secured to each end bar and adapted to engage the hooks on said legs, side bars pivotally secured to the terminals of said end bars and having laterally extending flanges, a link pivotally .securedto the terminal of one of each pair of side bars and having a laterally extending flange on its'upper edge, said links having slots adjacent to their outer terminals, a hooked pin secured to the other of each pair of side bars, and aflanged support secured to the upper edge of the last mentioned side bars.
