Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, URSILLA ULLITZ, a sub- I of telescopic sections with means for holding the sections at predetermined positions relatively to each other to accommodate hats of different sizes so that the hat box may be" packed in a trunk without danger of injuring the hat. The head at the outer end of one of the sections is removable to permit the user to reach the interior of the hat box.

Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following complete specification in which the preferred form of the in vention is disclosed.

In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, in which Figure 1 is an elevational view of the hat box; Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.

By referring to the drawings it will be seen that the hat box is constructed of two sections 5 and 6 the section 6 having a head 7 and the section 5 having a head 8 which is pivoted or hinged at 9. The sections 5 and 6 may be constructed of any desired material, but I prefer to construct the section 5 with collars 10 and 11, which are con nected by obliquely disposed wires 12, the section 6 having collars l3 and l lwhich are connected by obliquely disposed wire members 15. The wire members 12 and 15 being rigid prevent the box from collapsing, and are not only very light but greatly simplify the construction. The section 6 has longitudinal outwardly disposed guides 16, two at each side, the guides at each side being connected by web members 17. The guides 16 are engaged by guideways 18 which are secured to the collar 10, the collar 11 being constructed in two sections 11 and 11 the.

the web members 17 there are pins 20 which are adapted tobe engaged by the loop members 21 which are pivoted to the guideways '18.

By referring to Fig. 3 of the drawings it will be seen that a member 22 is provided for connecting the guideways 18 at each side of the hat box, this member 22 being disposed behind the web members 17. The members 22 are disposed a distance above the horizontal planes of the springs 19, these springs 19 serving to hold the guideways 18 yieldingly against the guides 16 and preventing the section 5 from slipping down on the section 6.

In using the hat box the loop members 21. are freed from the pins 20 and the section 5 is moved inwardly or outwardly relatively to the section 6 until the collars 10 and 13 are disposed at desired distances apart. The loop members 21 are then moved into engagement with the pins 20 to hold the sections, 5 and 6 relatively to each other. The head member 8 may be raised at any timc to permit the user to reach the interior of the hat box. The hat box may be made in different sizes and shapes and when desired it may be made waterproof.

Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. In a hat box a section having two guides at each side and spaced apart, a second section in two parts each part having ends, guideways secured to the ends and engaging the guides, and springs connecting the guldeways for holding the guideways yieldingly in contact with the guides.

2.
