UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN ALEXANDER PHIN, 0F TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.
COUNTER-TENDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN ALEXANDER PHIN, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Counter-Venders, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to improvements in counter vend ers, and the object of the invention is to devise a means especially adapted for chewing gum venders, whereby the package may be prevented from abrading, scratching or injuring the showcase of the counter, and yet permit it being moved thereon noiselessly.
My invention consists of a package preferably made of metal and having a lower circumferential flange surrounding a bottom raised above the flange, and an insert plate of suitable material covered with felt at the bottom and suitably held within the bottom of the package or packages, whereby the bottom is rendered non-abrasive, the parts being constructed and arranged in detail as hereinafter more particularly explained.
Figure 1, is a perspective View of my vender. Fig. 2, is a longitudinal section.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
A is a package made preferably cylindrical, although it may be made of any suitable form. The package A may be made of tin, card board or other suitable material.
B is a cover of the package.
C is the bottom of the package which is Specification of Letters Patent.

raised being preferably provided with a depending flange C held in by an upwardly extending turned-over flange A.
D is a pad, which may be made of felt or any other suitable material or as shown in the drawings the pad may comprise a core of stiff hard material and a soft outer cover of baize D. The pad D is suitably secured within flanges A to the bottom C.
The package is intended as a counter vender and it is well known that where packages are placed on counters or show cases, it being continually moved from place to place on the show case frequently scratches the case or injures the counter. Besides this the scraping noise incident to passing the Vender over the counter is, therefore, objectionable. By the use of the pad such as I describe at the bottom of the package the objections hereinbefore referred to are entirely obviated.
What I claim as my invention is.
In a counter vend er, the combination with a package, having a bottom, said bottom being provided with a cylindrical flange, of a pad located at the bottom thereof and held in place by said cylindrical flange, said pad comprising a core of stiff material and a covering of soft non-abrasive material completely inclosing said core to form a unitary article.
