To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRY E. BRIDGMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Barada, in the county of Richardson and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Three-Horse Doubletrees, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a novel and improved form and construction of three horse equalizers of that class designed more especially for use on wagons, but being adapted for use on various forms of horse drawn vehicles wherein three horses are desired to is to provide a device of this character which is of an extremely simple construction, employing few parts and may be readily and quickly positioned upon a horse drawn device.

In the accompanying drawings there has bodiment of the improvement, and in said drawings: Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of the front portion of a wagon gear with the improved equalizer positioned thereon; and Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.

In the use of three horse equalizers, as heretofore constructed, many difficulties have presented themselves, which may be mentioned as generally the difficulty of clividing and adjusting the equalizer so that each horse shall perform his proper amount of work. Also in constructing the equalizer so that. the middle horse shall have ample room to work while the outside horses shall not tend to be brought together and numerous other difficulties are effectively obviated, all of which are well known to persons accustomed to the use of three horse tea-ms.

It is the object of the present invention to overcome such difiiculties, and my device is so constructed and arranged as to consist of a combined equalizer and tripletree, the same possessing many advantages over those now in use.

To these ends, the invention consists in the features, arrangements and combinations of parts now to be described.

the bar 7 has its under face provided with a beaded stud 10 which is adapted to engage within the opening 9. The stud 10 is positioned in the center of the bar 7 so that the bar 8 extends a distance beyond its pivot 6. The bar 8, adjacent its free end, is provided with the usual pivoted clevis 11, the latter being adapted to loosely connect the swingletree 12 to the bar 8. The bar 7 is also provided with a clevis 13, and to this clevis is loosely connected the doubletree 14E.

Pivo-ted to each of the bars 7 and 8 a suitable distance away from the clevises 11 and 13, and toward the inner end of the said bars, are bails l5 and 16. These bails 15 and 16 are adapted for the reception of chain members 17 and 18. These chains are extended downwardly and are connected through the medium of suitable hooks 19 and 20 to the evener bar 21. This evener bar 21 is provided with an opening 22, the latter being adapted for the reception of a hook 23 which is connected with a pivoted plate 24, the latter being horizontally connected with the front bolster of the vehicle. By reference to Fig. I of the drawlng, it will be noted that the evener bar has its opening 22 nearest the end engaged by the hook 19 which is connected with the chain 17 secured to the shorter bar 7 of the device while the longer portion of the arm of the evener bar is connected with the chain 18 which engages with the longer bar 8 carrying the swingletree 12.

From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood.
